In Thomas E. Partlow's book of Wilson County, TN, Wills, Books 1 - 13, 1802 - 1850 . Page 15 POLLY HARRIS will. 1813. Heirs, brother Gideon, Gideon's daughter Elizabeth, Polly T. Arnold, daughter of David Arnold of Virginia and Nancy Harris. Witnesses: David Webb, Andrew McDaniel, and John Harris. Gideon Harris, executor. Recorded 2 September 1814. (P.411) Linda, I've had this book and other Wilson Co. Books for more than 20 years but never got the time to search this lead. I've been busy on other lines but would like to start of this. Maybe together we can search this out. It looks like our Nancy. I guess we need the Will and Deeds starting in 1790's and after Polly's death. Good luck. Let me know. Does anyone have any info on a "Ticktown" which was mentioned in a Ligon family history note as being the location just outside of Lebanon where Amanda Ligon was killed when she fell under a wagon as the family was moving to Wilson County? Sorry about the length of the question, I just couldn't find a place to stop. Reece Andrews
John and Nancy Lee Harris Irby were my ggg grandparents. John Irby was born 1791 in Newberry Co., SC. His father was Henry Irby b. apprx. 1770 in VA. Henry was the son of Joseph Irby b. 1728 VA who was killed during the Massacre at Hayes Station in SC (Rev. War). In researching Irby's I've seen some Harris family members who have lived near the places where my Irby family lived. I have had no luck in finding Nancy Lee Harris's parents and ancestors though. All I do know of her is that she was born 1796-1802 in North Carolina. There was an Arthur Harris of NC who sold land in NC which was witnessed by John Irby's cousin. Does anyone know of this Arthur Harris? He moved to Wilson County around 1800. John and Nancy Harris Irby moved to southern Illinois in latter 1830s. Any information of this Arthur or my Nancy will be appreciated. Many thanks! Linda
Is anyone familiar with Joshua Pemberton b. abt. 1810 in TN who married Millie Dudley b. abt. 1817. They were married during the 1830s in Wilson County. The 1850 census there shows my gg grandfather, James F. Pemberton, as living in their household. Does anyone know if he was actually their son? Does anyone have Joshua and Millie's marriage information. Information of their parents? Joshua moved his family to southern Illinois shortly after the 1850 census was taken. Many thanks. Linda

Posted on: Wilson Co. Tn Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Wilson/755 Surname: Jennings, Robinson, Fite ------------------------- My father had a first cousin named Robert Fred Jennings. Fred had a brother named Walter Ray Jennings. Does this sound familiar? My gg grandfather was Wiley Jennings and his wife was Sally Robinson. I have his Bible. They were supposed to be from the Statesville area in Wilson County. Our info doesn't match, but the names and places are so much the same that I feel that there must be some connection. Do you have birthdates, etc.? My gg grandfather was born in 1816 and the Robert Fred I know would have been born in the early 1900s. If these are the same people, I have a lot of information for you. Sincerely, Daris Mullinax Alexandria, TN.
According to Frank Burns' "History of Wilson County, Tennessee," Indian Ladder was on the Cumberland River west of Hunter's Point. The DeLorme Mapping "Tennessee Atlas and Gazeteer" shows Hunter's Point on the south side of the Cumberland where Highway 231 crosses the Cumberland, almost due north of Lebanon. Good morning, I am researching Melvin families in Wilson County and Davidson County. Specifically I am trying to find the parents and other siblings of my ancester William Melvin who married Tabitha Gillepie in Wilson County in 1838. I know one of his brothers, Peter Melvin, was a minister at the New Hope Baptist Church in Hermitage. Peter married Mary Jackson in 1844 in Wilson County. I am glad to share what information I have on these families. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with information on Melvin families. Thank you, Ann
Regarding your post about Thomas Martin, b. Va. in 1801 and moved from Wilson County, Tennessee to Butler County, Kentucky: I have just discovered a possible link of my own to a Martin Family, and it sounds likely they are the same. My interest is in Reece Watkins, who married Rachel Martin in Campbell County, Virginia in 1802. They moved to Wilson County, Tennessee in about 1818, and about 1834 or shortly thereafter appear to have moved to Butler County, Kentucky. I am trying to confirm that Reece Watkins died in Bulter County before the 1850 Census. His widow, Rachel, was living with her daughter, Elizabeth Chandler there in 1850, and died there in 1855. Rachel (Martin) Watkins was the daughter of David Watkins, Sr. of Campbell County, Virginia. I just located an abstract of David Martin's will today. It is recorded in Campbell County, Virginia Will Book 2 (1800-1810), p. 337. The will is dated 18 May 1807, and proved 12 Oct. 1807. Children listed include Josiah Martin, John Martin, David Martin, Jr., James Martin, Mary Pugh, Sally Rector, Rachel Watkins, Elizabeth Rector. He mentioned his wife, but not by name. It appears that the marriages for the above are as follows: 1. Josiah Martin. I don't see a marriage for this one, so I can't tell if he might be your Thomas' father. 2. John Martin. There are two Campbell County, Va. marriages for John Martins. First is to Sarah Pugh, daughter of David Pugh on 14 Jan. 1796, by William Flowers. Second is to Elizabeth Reynolds on 18 Apr. 1802. Your Thomas could be a son by the Martin-Pugh marriage. 3. David Martin, Jr., has two possible marriage listings as well. First David Martin, "Jr." married Jean Dickey, d/o Edward and Jean Dickey on 21 Dec. 1801 by William Flowers. There is another marriage for a David Martin to Locy Pugh, d/o Jonath Pugh on 26 Nov. 1807. So it looks like both of these marriages may be too late for your Thomas. 4. James Martin. There are three listing for James Martin marriages. 1st one is to Mary Martin, with bond issued 2 Feb. 1786. The 2nd is to Sally Williamson, with bond issued 12 Nov. 1798. The 3rd is to Ann Dickey, d/o Edward and Jean Dickey on 18 Nov. 1802 by William Flowers. 5. Mary Martin, married John Pugh in Campbell Co., Va. on 31 Dec. 1790 (although it says the bond was issued 26 Dec. 1789 - something is wrong here). 6. Sarah ("Sally") Martin, married Martin Rector in Campbell Co., Va. on 25 Dec. 1804. 7. Rachel Martin (b. ca. 1780. d. 1855 Butler Co., Ky.) married Reece Watkins in Campbell Co., Va. 11 Mar. 1802. I think these may be my ancestors. 8. Elizabeth Martin, married Lewis Rector in Campbell County, Va. on 17 Jan. 1799 There appear to be more Martins in Campbell County who are connected with the ones above, but I have not sorted them out yet. Some of them, including some of the Martins, the Watkins, and the Pughs all moved to Wilson County, Tennessee and later to Butler County, Kentucky. So I think this must be your Thomas Martin's family connection in some way. Good luck, and let me know if you find anything that makes a connection. Erick Montgomery
