I am Margo E. Gorden Krieger and I'm new to this list. I am digging into my Adams line and just would like to check and see if anyone else on this list are descendants of William Adams and Ovidia Nowlin or know of the family. I've not discovered William Adams dob but est it to be 1770-1780. He was b. Wilson Co, TN according to oldish family notes written by we don't know whom. This has put me on a track to follow though. It is stated that he d. Oct 1831 Wilson Co, TN. I am not sure if a newspaper was published during this time period but am sure to find out soon (I hope!). During the early 1800's I've noticed not many people put obits in the papers, depending on the area and "importance" of the individual. William's wife was Ovidia "Biddy" Nowlin. She was b. same estimated, maybe younger than William. I've not located his gravesite and am wondering if the genealogical society for Wilson Co is very helpful. I've found most to be terrific! If I find a lot of my relatives stayed there with much history regarding them, I want to find the right books! I am assuming he was buried in Wilson Co but this is just the 1st place I am looking since I have no other clues. It appears that Ovidia, who was called "Biddy" and some of her children went to Christian Co, MO after William passed away. William appeared to die young and it'd be interesting to find out what it was he died of if there was a Mortality Schedule for the area at the time. Some of the other Adams children stayed in Wilson Co. Here's a list of the children that I have. If anyone is connected and would like to share info (I don't have much as my Adams line wasn't spoken of much while growing up. I'll explain later if there's a relative interested.) I want to find out about this family and where they came from! William Adams & Ovidia "Biddy" Nowlin children: i. Greenberry Adams b. 1803 Wilson Co, TN, d. btwn 1880-1894. Married Sarah/Sally Periman June 23, 1825 Wilson Co, TN. Had abt 12 kids. ii. Charlotte Adams b. est 1804-1820 Wilson Co, TN, d. May 16, 1875 Christian Co, MO. Married Henry C. Nash in Greene Co, MO. iii.Leroy L. Adams b. abt 1812 Wilson Co, TN, d. Jan 1, 1900 Christian Co, MO. Married Mary Ann Cummins of TN also. They m. Aug 2, 1840 Greene Co, MO. had 6 children. iv. Jacob Adams b. abt 1812 Wilson Co, TN, d. bef 1894 MO (Ozark region probably Christian Co or Greene Co, MO). Married Charlotte Unknown. Had 7 children I know of. v. Elizabeth Adams b. May 06, 1824 Wilson Co, TN, d. August 03, 1892 Sparta, Christian Co, MO. I don't know if she ever married. There is no note as to her having been married. These are all the children I know of so far. I am in search of William Adams will. Hopefully he left one. If anyone is connected, please let me know. I'd love to hear from you! Margo Krieger

4/29/01 Thought I'd try a new approach to looking for my ggggrandfather, John Hunt, b. July 13, 1798, in Rowan Co., NC. does anyone have a John Hunt among their ancestors who married Elizabeth(unk), either in Tennessee or Kentucky, between 1815 and 1820? If so, I'm looking for him, and we may be cousins. It is NOT, I am fairly certain, the John Hunt who married Elizabeth Jane Moore in Wilson Co... Tn in 1816 Patricia
Please check your confederate physicians list for "Doc" Simcock, brother to my ggg grandmother. Thanks. Pat Greenwood I hear ethereal whispers persuasive, soft and still, "Daughter, if you don't remember us, who will?" -
What newspapers were around in Wilson County in the 1870-1890 range, especially in the Leeville area? Are there any records kept from those newspapers?

Tn Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Wilson/10827 Surname: WILLIAMS, MOUNT, RASH or RICE, FOSTER, BRYANT, CLAYBOURN ------------------------- The first few U.S. Census indices for TN, NC & VA list about 5 different Moses WILLIAMS. One of them migrated to TN and his grandson was named after him. That grandson married Nancy Jane RICE or RASH. I have a Sarah Elizabeth Williams, b. 1861. If you would contact me with birth dates/places for some of the later family names, we may be able to locate Silas. I also have a Samuel Williams, fathered Frances E. Williams (female) in 1811 in Wilson County, TN. This doesn't help you find Silas Williams, but we may have some common Williams lines that will help.

Have you checked census records for TN? Since you know a county (Hickman) you can probably pick up some of the names in one of the TN census records. Karen
I hate calling you a number and you gave no name! Thank you for volunteering! I don't know that you can find any records, but... Noah and Hannah HICKS KELLEY married in Wilson Co. in 1806 (I have a copy of their bond). They lived in TN--somewhere--and had children there--6 that I know of between their marriage and ca. 1825. (James, Silas, Elizabeth, Isaac, Martha, Noah). Noah does not show as head of household I am told, in any census. A Noah KELLEY (mine?) sold land in Dickson Co. in 1813 to a John NALL, I have a copy of this record. Noah and Hannah and most of the six children show up beginning with James and Silas (and a Noah father or son?) in the 1840 Montgomery Co IL Census. In this and all records that I have found in IL the children say they were born in TN. It has been suggested that they might have lived with relatives and therefore Noah wouldn't show up as head of household in the 1810-1820 or 1830 federal and state censuses. I don't know names of any KELLEY relatives other that the children. A Richard HICKS signed the marriage bond for Hannah, but I am told he isn't in the censuses either. Hints, Suggestions?
