I am searching for parents of JOHN W. WHITE b. 1786 in VA (county unknown) d. 1853 in Wilson Co., TN. He went to Wilson Co in 1805 and md. Susannah Bradley, d/o John Bradley Jr. Susannah also b. VA. I am having a problem finding John W. White in Va. since I can't locate the county he was born. If anyone has access to any records in Wilson Co that would give me a lead to the county that John W. was born in VA, then maybe I could find his parents. Only a theory, but think he was related to Henry and Celia Paige White and perhaps his parents died when he was an infant and some of Henry White's family raised him. It is our understanding, that he also worked for John Bradley Jr. before marrying Susannah. Thank you Linda Holmes White www.geocities.com/dolluvers

Thursey and Thomas were married on 3 June 1825 in Wilson County. Am interested in finding their ancestors. Have their children's names, but can find nothing on their parents. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you. Betty Gardner
I continue to search for descendants of Isaac, who was listed in the 1850 Wilson County Census, I am especially interested in in where he was prior to 1849, when he was listed as having married a secons wife, Susan, the daughter of Pleasant Johnson, also of Wilson County, Isaac came from, N.C. - We suspect Caswell County. We also suspect he spent some time in Orange County, Illinois. His first wife , and mother of his children, we are almost positive was a cherokee indian. Wedonot know her name or when they married. The 1850 Wilson County Censuslists Isaac 40, Susan 17, 2nd wife, and five children: Benjamin 18, Mary 17, William l6 (my grandfather), Nancy 9, and James 7. We know about William, who later went to Nashville with Isaac, where Isaac was a shoemaker, and William a boilermaker. I have located a direct descendent of Benjamin, who lives in Virginia, but does not seem to have much information about Benjamin. I am interested in learning the following; 1. Where Isaac was born & where 2. Who was his first wife, when and where they were married, and what happened to her. 3. What happened to the second wife, Susan? There is no record of her having been in Nashville with Isaac. 4. What happened to children: Benjamin, Nancy, Mary and James There surely must be some of their descendents living in Tenn., and perhaps in Wilson County If there is anyone who has informattion concerning Isaac or his children or other descendents, i would be most appreciative if they would contact me and tell me what they know. Can someone tell me where Goose Creek Ranch was in Shop Springs in the late1800's. I supposedly have two ancesters buried their. The only clue I have is that it had a high hill on the place, where the burial spots are. Any help would sure be appreciated. Susan Lane
My grandfather, Jere Dock Whitman, died about 1898-99. He and his family were living in either Wilson or Sumner county at the time. Without knowing the exact date of his death, would it be possible to lookup an obituary from a newspaper that was in existence at that time? I know he was living in Wilson County in 1894 when my father was born, and it is possible he lived there at the time of his death. However, my grandmother is listed as a widow living in Sumner County in 1900. Any info on my grandfather from 1880 - 1900 would be very helpful. The last record I have of him is on the 1880 census of DeKalb County (Dowelltown community.) Thank you. Betty Whitman McClaran

Cole, Joseph Kirkpatrick, Henry Davis, James Tipton, Thomas Ray, Reuben Slaughter, DANIEL GLENN, James A. The East Tennessee Historical Society is unveiling a new family heritage program, Civil War Families of Tennessee. Civil War Families of Tennessee (CWFT) seeks to identify and honor the sacrifices of the valiant soldiers on both sides of the conflict. This lineage program will link current descendants with their Civil War ancestors, encourage new research, and combine the experiences of thousands of individuals and families to tell more fully the story of the Civil War in Tennessee. If you are a direct or collateral descendant of any individual who served in Tennessee during the Civil War-Union or Confederate-you are eligible for membership in CWFT. Service may have been in either a Tennessee unit or any non-Tennessee unit which was active in the state. Membership is also open through an ancestor who served elsewhere but lived in Tennessee either before, during, or after the war. In order to recognize the service of the many young men who died unwed and without children, CWFT offers membership through collateral descent also. Like its sister program, First Families of Tennessee, CWFT applications and membership files will be housed in the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection (Knoxville, Tennessee) of the Knox County Public Library System where together the two projects will provide an unparalleled resource for family and historical research in the Volunteer State. CWFT members will receive a handsome certificate with the names of the applicant and the ancestor, along with the name of the ancestor's company and regiment. A roster of the members and their ancestors will eventually be published in book form. CWFT members will also be recognized at a grand reunion to be hosted by the East Tennessee Historical Society. For additional information about the Civil War Families of Tennessee project, including a downloadable application form, please visit the ETHS web site at www.east-tennessee-history.org. Anyone unable to download a form may request an application form by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Civil War Families of Tennessee c/o ETHS PO Box 1629 Knoxville, TN 37901-1629 Additional questions about the new CWFT project may also be addressed to civilwar@east-tennessee-history.org (Please note that ETHS does not provide email-based research assistance at this time.) The East Tennessee Historical Society, founded in 1834, is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the state of Tennessee. ETHS, a non-profit organization headquartered in Knoxville, is dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and promoting the history of East Tennessee. The society's programs and activities are made possible through the support of its membership. The society's First Families of Tennessee family heritage program was founded in 1992 and now includes more than 13,000 members in 50 states and eight foreign nations.
