Hi, Does someone know where the name Araminta came from? Or what it means? Is it an Indian name? I hope knowing where it came from or what it means will give me a hint as to where to look for her. My GG grandparents were Spencer W. TALLEY and Araminta EDDINGS. There were 2 children (William and Gideon) in the Spencer W. TALLEY household in Wilson Co., TN in the 1850 U.S. census. I've never found anything about Spencer W., Araminta, William or Gideon since then. It's enough to make you believe in alien abductions. Bill Allen <misterbill@pdq.net>

I'm looking for the parents of David C. Jackson born around 1808, died in 1865. His son was Thomas L. Jackson. Thanks! Betty
Thomas E. Partlow's WILSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, CHANCERY COURT RECORDS 1842-1892, has the following entry which may help, if you can sort everyone out. It says that all are heirs of John Bass. Bill of complaint of Sion Bass, A. J. Bass of Wilson County; Robert Bass of Rutherford County; John Wynne and wife Hexie, Sion Bass, Jr., and Daniel Bass of Wilson County; Madison Bass of Davidson County; Malinda Phillips, Alexander Green of Wilson County; Malinda Padget, Hansford Green, Sarah Badget and husband and John Bass of Sumner County; James Gaddy and wife Elizabeth of Illinois; Paulie Bass and Roxie Bass of Wilson County, Robert Green, Elizabeth Bowers and husband of Arkansas; Martha Green and Rufus Green of Wilson County; John Green of Knox County; Lucy Green of Sumner County; Alexander Green, guardian of Martha, Lucy, John, and Rufus Green of Wilson County. Said parties are the heirs of John Bass who died about 1863, leaving a widow, Mary Bass, and other heirs. 10 January 1870 (Chancery Book I, Pp. 519-525) The following also regards Sion Bass (from the same source): Bill of complaint of G. B. West, Joseph B. West of Dekalb County; W. A. Pruitt, W. K. Palmer for W. S. Smith; A. J. Bass, Sion Bass, William Bass, Calvin Jones, Elijah Wamack for Joseph Tippitt against W. S. Alexander and Priscilla Green of Wilson County; and George Crutchfield of Davidson County. 6 October 1873 (Chancery Book 1871-1874, Pp. 104-105) I am told that these books are now available for copying at the Wilson County Archives in Lebanon. When I tried to get the photos I received a message saying your program is set to run in MS DOS which I don't have. Could you run it in something else? I would love to see those photos my great-great grandfather was James Marion Winn,Sr. born in Wilson county in 1841. I am seeking all/any info about him and his family. Thank you. Andrea Harris
Thank you publicly to the many people who wrote and answered my question about who the Byers Dowdy Elementary School is named after. For the sake of those who may search the archive in the future, it is named for two men who were involved in the educational system and are now deceased: Harry M. Byers, who was a long time school board member Roy Dowdy, who was superintendent. of the Special school district Would anyone happen to know who the parents of Harry M. Byers were or when he passed on? I was unable to find him in the Social Security death index which leads me to believe he passed before the 1960's. I am trying to find the descendants of a brother or brothers of Moses A. BYERS ((Aug 8, 1824 TN to May 12, 1898 Norene, Wilson Co TN). He married Lucretia PRICHARD of the Norene area in Wilson Co on April 10, 1848. They only had one child - Sarah Ann (May 7,1850 to Nov 30,1867, both in Norene, TN). Sarah Ann married Charles L. ROBERTSON (Apr, 1840 to after 1900) and died at age seventeen a week after giving birth to twin girls. One of the twin - Sarah Laura ROBERTSON (Nov 23, 1867 to May 30, 1882) - died without issue. The other twin - Martha Flaura ROBERTSON (Nov 23, 1867 to Aug 26, 1896 both in Norene, TN) - married James Henry WHITE about 1891. They had three children, two girls and a boy. The boy died in infancy and the girls are my great-aunt and grandmother. I believe Moses BYERS had at least one brother because his widow had a neice, Martha A. BYERS (b 12/1886 TN) in her home in the 1900 census (Wilson Co TN 18th District, V76, ED 148, Sheet 11, Line 13) Renee
Folks, I am looking for the parents of William Bass b. 8 Mar 1811 d. 30 Sep 1891, both in Wilson Co., TN m. 30 Oct 1832 Wilson Co. TN, to Nancy Phillips b.14 Nov 1812 d. 27 Jan 1889, both in Wilson Co., TN I belief he may have been a son of Ezekiel Bass, Sr b 1775 in NC, d. 1868 in Wilson Co., TN. He married 1. Sarah Vincent c 1796 in NC and 2. Sarah Murphy Jan 31 1843 in Wilson Co., TN. The reason for this belief is that 2 children of Ezekiel and Sarah; Archamack and Henry Bass both married daus. of John and Mary Phillips, those were Rachel and Francina. The Wife of William I am looking for is also a dau of John and Mary Phillips! The Henry Bass, son of Ezekiel Bass was born 8 April 1810 and William was born 8 Mar 1811, 11 months later! It was pretty common to find several children of one family marrying those of another, probably because they were within easy access! I would greatly appreciate any help anybody can give me in this matter! Morris L. Ferguson mailto:leroyf@chesapeake.net
Dear list members, First, I apologize for the lengthy delays between updates. Unfortunately, I no longer have enough time to maintain the mailing list and web sites the way they should be maintained. Just too many irons in the fire... and I don't see an end in sight. Nevertheless, I just updated the Photo Album with some great old and new images. Old photos submitted by Anna Nettles: - school photo ca1902 Rocky Branch in/near Cherry Valley - John A. Nettles, - John Bass and Kirk Bass (sons of Thomas Amsi Bass and Lucy Ann Smith Nettles) - Harlena Oakley Nettles - Mary Mosier and Children - Robert Suggs - Corda Lewis Nettles And John A. Nettles together, - John Nettles, Ethel Grisson and Andrew Paul (with a hunting dog) - Corda L.Nettles and Era Bennet - Era and Edgar Bennet and daughter - Mary Jane (Love) Lewis and children - 1/2 picture of Rocky Branch School (John Nettles is in the middle of the back row near a post and Andrew Paul is in it too - they are about 16 or so.) ALSO, I posted over three dozen recent photos of Fiddler's Grove submitted by Roger Bailey. Thank you Anna and Roger. These are great additions to the site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwilson/photos/photos.html Photo_Album Thanks all. Greg

Hello, Interested in early Flemings in Wilson County, James Fleming married Margaret Hartin, and their son, James Hartin Fleming, b. about 1824. Best regards, Grace Baxter Constantine gconstan@worldpath.net
Thanks, Christopher! The Nancy Bone you show in your info. IS the Margretta Bone in my message, who married Robert Scott. Looks like she went through several husbands -- it was usually the other way around! So...you have helped me find my missing bones, that is Bones! Robert and Margretta (Nancy) had a son, E.B. Scott who married Sarah Cox, daughter of Henry R. Cox and Maria Clifton. I have found so little info. on any of them, even after a visit to Wilson Co (unfortunately on a Sunday, so library was closed, and I could only look at cemetary records). THANKS for getting me on track with this line, and let me know if you have any interest in more info. on descendants of this line. ccing to the list, in case info. is helpful to others. I think I may have a lead on my brick wall for my Davis line. According to LDS-1880 census cds, I may have found my g-grandmother. I was hoping someone may have access to 1870 & possibly 1880 actual census record for Wilson Co, 19th district. page 534, I find John age 23 with wife Sarah 29, daughter Minie age 9 and Walter age 6. My problems is that John is 23 which would mean that he would have been 14 when Minie was born, (possible, but think unlikely). The LDS cds are transcribed but hoping may be error. I have been looking for Minie (Minnie Frances) for many years. Their neighbor according to census is D.C.Davis age 38, wife Eliza age 43, son W.A age 20. Minnie married Simpson Harris Baskin sometime between 1894-1896?, have never found marriage records. Simpson Baskin son of Andrew Jackson Baskin of Rutherford Co, son of Robert McKinley Baskin & Rachel Ricketts of Wilson Co TN. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Deborah Magnolia TX
Thanks to everyone who responded to my query about researching in Lebanon. There were too many responses to thank everyone individually. With all of the responses, I can't possibly go wrong. Rodger Grimm
Does anyone have access to the 1870 Wilson County census? The index tells me there is a Joseph Bright (548 must be page number), age given 20 yrs. I need to know who is in his household. Thanks to anyone who can help, Wanda
Good morning list- I will be going to Lebanon on Monday to research my wife's family (Baskin, Moser, Edwards, Bentley). I don't know exactly what resources are available there. Will the county courthouse be helpful? Is there a County Historical Society that may have information? Where are they located? When are they open? Thanks in advance. Rodger GRIMM
