    1. [TNWILSON] Pemberton, Jesse
    2. Kent Simpson
    3. This is a story of two men wth the same name. Jesse Pemberton b. 1806 m.13Nov1828 in Wilson County TN to Saluda Bradley b. abt 1806 she died abt 1857 in Hamilton County, IL. Jesse married a second time to Mrs Mary Dudley Smith 23Sep1857 in Hamilton County. The second family Jesse B. Pemberton b abt 1809 m. Mary Ann Womack 9Nov1843, Wilson County TN. both died 1880 Hamilton County, IL. Both families were in the 1850 Wilson County Census, both famlies moved to Hamilton County by 1855 and seem to get mixed together, by some. Is anyone on this list researching Pembertons? Or that can shed more light on these two Jesse Pembertons? Thanks Kent

    1. [TNWILSON] A proposed memorial
    2. Joy King
    3. What a great idea! Joy Our nation has, once again, been put in the position of sitting in front of televisions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week watching while our brothers and sisters are digging one brick at a time to recover the remains of our "brothers and sisters" in public safety. On December 3,1999 a fire in a Worcester MA cold storage warehouse trapped and killed 6 fire fighters. We will never forget the eerie scene of fire fighters digging by hand through the rubble day after day and night after night until the remains of all six fire fighters were recovered and properly laid to rest. Once again our eyes are red from watching our fellow public safety family search for our extended family and the citizens who were so cruelly taken from us at the New York City World Trade Center. During the long vigil for the Worcester fire someone provided us with a visible showing of our concern and respect for those that have been taken from us during that incident. Because it was the Christmas season the idea of adding a single red light bulb blazing in a window to symbolize the grief and respect for our fallen heroes was proposed. Many of you will remember seeing the red candles in homes through out the country as the idea took hold. It has been proposed that we, as a nation, rekindle those candles of sympathy. Please consider going to your attic or garage where you keep your holiday bulbs and place a candle in the window to remember those lost in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Use a red light to memorialize the fire fighters, EMTs, and paramedics, a blue light to memorialize the police officers, and finally, a white light to remember the innocent civilians who were killed by these cowardly acts. These lights would stay lit 24 hours a day, 7 days week until the last person has been recovered. Of course it would be acceptable to leave a candle lit longer than that time if, perhaps, a permanent reminder was felt necessary by the family living behind the lights. I would appreciate your consideration of this memorial symbol as we here on Cape Cod and in Massachusetts are doing to show the world our resolve as a public safety community and our nation. Thank you so much. Joe McNeil, Captain Harwich, MA Fire Department (retired) Past President, APCO International PS: If you are inclined to, would you please forward this message to your email list in the hopes of lighting up the world with this gesture. Thank you.

    1. [TNWILSON] VIRUS received in response to list request
    2. Morris L. Ferguson
    3. Folks, I recently placed an email to this list on my William and Henry Bass. I received a reply from the Tommy&ShelaTowell@cybertrails.com with an attachment saying "Check out this attachment". I trusted that this was a reply to my request for info but instead it launched a VIRUS! The file was called searchURL.scr and the Virus was W32Badtrans.13312@mm My Norton Antivirus caught it and quarantined it right away and I didn't suffer any data loss. Others may not be so lucky. The person who sent it probably doesn't even know they have the virus, so I hope they will get an antivirus package and run it on their computer. Thanks Morris L. 1. [TNWILSON] SHERRILL, TARVER, SCOBY, HOLBERT, WATER, THOMAS
    2. Joanne Scobee Morgan
    3. Hi, folks. I'm new to your lists because I've found info that I can't figure out... perhaps one of you will know the answers I'm looking for! HUGH SHERRILL's will was written 19 July 1836. He lists his heirs as wife, Jane R. Sherrill; mother, Elizabeth Sherrill; children: Saraphine, Elizabeth, Josaphine, Rebecca & Dolphus Jerome Sherrill. Shelah Water to be guardian of Hiram T. Sherrill who is the minor heir of Alanson Sherrill. Witnesses: Silas Tarver, James Scoby and Joel B. Holbert. Shelah Water, executor. Recorded 23 Sept 1836 pp 405-406 Wilson Co., Tennessee Wills books 1-13 1802-1850 compiled by Thomas E. Partlow. Maiden names were Jane R. Scoby, wife. Elizabeth Thomas, his mother. My questions are these: I had his daughters as Josephine Rebecca & Saraphine Elizabeth. Were there really 4? I also had a son, Hugh I. White Sherrill, who wasn't mentioned in the will, and who was Alanson? Another son already deceased? Hugh's deceased brother? Hugh evidently had some control over who would raise him... why? Who is Shelah Waters? I've seen this name many times buying and selling land from various Scobeys in Wilson Co., TN. Saraphine married William Adolphus Waters Mar 31, 1847 in White Co., Ark... how might he be related to Shelah? Anyone know the answer to these questions?

    1. [TNWILSON] Original community limits of Oakland Community
    2. WE have Oakland Community signs ready to be erected on the Coles Ferry Pike and I have been asked to name the boundaries. I recall the signs used to be in place but eventually dissappeared. I know the first one was at Walker Lane on Coles Ferry Pike but need to know how far down (north-west) Coles Ferry the original Oakland Community originally ran. I definitely know it included the old Oakland School which is now Linda's Day Car and that it has been infringed upon by the ever expanding Possum Town community, but does anyone know the actual boundaries, if show please advise me. L..T. Jenkins at Jenkinsrawhide@aol or phone me at 615-444-3510 (no guesses please). Thanks

    1. [TNWILSON] KELLY/KELLEY
    2. I am new to the list, and I am hoping to find some information on my Kelly/Kelley line. I had previously searched Williamson County, TN after finding a listing for my grandfather, NOAH KELLY in the LDS records as being born on Jan. 29, 1834 in Willamson County. However, I have done extensive searching of Tennessee records and find a DANIEL KELLY family appearing consistently in the Wilson County Census records, so I thought I would enter my information on this list and hope to locate some long lost cousins. This is what I have per records I have found: DANIEL KELLY born 1790 in Virginia/Kentucky; married ELIZABETH ??, born in Georgia in 1798, children born in Tennessee are ADALINE, b 1830, EDITHA, b 1833, NOAH, b 1835, GEORGE, b 1837, and JAMES (?), b 1841. The family then moved to Morgan County, Missouri, where both Daniel and Noah homesteaded. From that time forward I find consistent records and the name begins to appear as KELLEY. Thus it's my hope to find some more definite Tennessee records. If this rings a bell with anyone, or if you have suggestions on where to go for information, I would surely love to hear from you! Thanks much! God bless America, today and every day.... Edna in Kansas

    2. Sharon Johnson
    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sharon Johnson To: TNWILSON@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2001 10:46 AM Subject: Bass family of West Wilson Co 1800's I've photographed my Grandmother Bass' Binkley-Bass bible. I descend from Alfred Bass b Mar 25 1825 in Wilson Co. married Sarah B Binkley of Hermitage in 1847 in Wilson Co, and lived in MS as plantation foreman in 1850 and 1860 censuses, in 4th district (Hermitage) Davidson Co census in 1870, and then in Crittenden Co KY. This is not Alfred J Bass of similar age who remained in Wilson Co and is first listed in 1850 census. Basses identified in the Bible are Oren Bass b 2/25/1818; M H Bass b 7//25/1820, Milbery Bass b 9/17/1823?, Alfred Bass b 3/25/1825, Nancy Bass b 7/29/1827, G L? Bass b 12/28/1831, H T or J Bass b 7/21/1834, G G Bass b 4/27/1847- - - these are in same ink and all but the last would appear to be siblings. In a separate ink is Hiram Tomas Bass b 10/10/1874, - - in another ink: Guidla Thompson Bass b 3/27/1876. Under deaths are listed Lucy Bass d 3/11/1835, J J? Bass d 12?/14/1829, Henry G Bass d 4/20/1842, Ann Bass d 9/16/1827, Jane Anderson d 5/15//1858, Cader Bass d 10/28/1858, Mary Ann Anderson d 7/21/1848. I'm trying to identify this Bass family. I believe Cader who died 10/28/1858 married Martha Phillips and they lived near Leesburg. However there appears to be somewhat younger Cader who also died 10/28/1858 who lived near Watertown. Which of the Bass families were associated with Andersons? Thank you, Sharon Johnson Descendant of several Wilson County families: Conyers, Harrington, Howard, Bass

    1. [TNWILSON] Cader Bass
    2. Teresa Walker
    3. For Sharon Johnson and others interested in Cader Bass--- Thomas E. Partlow's WILSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, CHANCERY COURT RECORDS 1842-1892, has the following entry which shows Cader Bass's parents, siblings and children. Bill of complaint of Jhn C. Organ, administrator of E. W. Bass; John Bethel and wife Sarah; James P. Tubb and wife Mary; Thomas D. Bass of Dekalb County; John W. Bass of Warren County; (?) Phillips and wife Elizabeth of Wilson County; Josiah L. Bass and William Bass of Texas against Nancy Tarpley of Wilson County; John Bass of Illinois; Warren Bass of Texas; Henry Bass, John Bass, John Smith and wife Elizabeth, Nowell Bass, Lem'l Bass, Daniel Odum and wife Mary, unknown heirs of Dolphin Bass, non residents (possibly of Missouri); heirs of Washington Bass of Kentucky. Said complainants and defendants are the heirs of E. W. Bass who died in 1866 or 1867. He left eight children by his last (I think this should be "first") wife, to wit, Archie who is dead and left eight heirs, to wit, E. W., John W. Bethel and wife Sarah, James P. Tubb and wife Mary, Josiah L. Bass, Thomas D. Bass, (?) Phillips and wife Elizabeth, William Bass, John Bass, (I believe these are the eight childre! n of Archie), Dolphin Bass who is dead, CADER BASS WHO IS DEAD AND LEFT FIVE HEIRS, to wit, John, John Smith and wife Elizabeth, Nowell Bass, Lem'l Bass, Daniel Odum and wife Mary (I believe these are the five children of Cader), Nancy Tarpley, Warren Bass, and Washington Bass who is dead and left one child whose name is not know. Which six named children constitute all the heirs of Ezekiel Bass by the first wife. He also left two children by the last wife, to wit, Hardy P. and (?). He also left a widow who is still living. 18 November 1869 (Chancery Book J, Pp. 192-208) I believe the clerk made a mistake in the body of the instrument and that there were six children by the first wife and two by the last wife, constituting eight heirs altogether. That second child by the second wife should be named on the 1870 census along with the widowed mother, unless he is grown and gone. These are not my family, but hope the information helps you out. Eula Rushing 1898-1899 The above people are buried in Bryan Cemetary in Wilson County, TN. The Etta T. Rushing mentioned above is my GG Aunt and her real name was Henrietta Trippe/Tripp Rushing. Her mother was Fredonia Elizabeth Riggan of Wilson County and her father was Sam or Samuel Trippe/Tripp believed to be from either Arkansas, Georgia or Alabama. Her brother was Tilmon Valrus Trippe/Tripp (my GG grandfather who married Cora Ann Pulley) who also lived in Wilson County,TN. Etta also known as Etter is rumoured to have been a school teacher. I know she attended the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Leeville, TN and married late in life. Both Etta and Tilmon were born in Arkansas. My family lost information on her and I was told she married a Russian by one of my Great Aunts who was born after she died. Another Riggan cousin found Etta for me. I am not sure which Rushing Etta was married to and I am guessing it was one of the ones buried in this cemetary. Trippe or Tripp (my mother's maiden name --sh! e too along with me are Wilson Cou nty natives) has been my brick walll for four years straight. I have Sam's civil war confederacy papers from Arkansas but I can't find him anymore before 1861. He is dead by 1870 and his family returned to Wilson County by 1870. I am hoping finding out about Etta might give me some clues on her father Sam Trippe/Tripp. Also, I would like to know what happened to Etta and if any pictures exist, etc Thanks Cynthia Cline, Houston, Texas Wilson County surnames I am researching: TRIPPE/TRIPP; STEWART/STEWARD; WEBBER/WEBER; PULLEY; RIGGAN; TARVER

Scobey, for love and affection, deeded a parcel of land in the 21st District to Freeland Comer, L. J. Reed, Green Reed, R. C. Scobey, and W. A. Johnson, trustees of Union Methodist Church. 1. [TNWILSON] TODD, LIGON, HILL
    2. Joanne Scobee Morgan
    3. Hi. I've just found something, so subscribed to your lists... This is not the actual will... I haven't seen it, nor do I have access to it... NANCY E. HILL Will... written 7 January 1874. Lists Heirs: husband, F. T. A. Hill; brother, W. F. Todd; Sallie P. Todd, (niece) daughter of William F. & Juliette H. Todd; A. E. Ligon, (niece) daughter of W. B. and Mary C. Ligon; and the Silver Springs Congregation. Mentions money going to her from the estate of J. B. Scobey, and money going to her from her dear, deceased sister, Mary E. Ligon, with which she wants tombstones erected at the graves of her sister and her dear little Earl (I think "her" means her sister's son) and my dear little boys. Her executor was husband, F. T. A. Hill. The will was recorded 5 March 1874, and this excerpt was on pp 207-208 Wills & Inventories 1871-1878 in the book "The people of Wilson County, Tennessee, 1800- 1899" by Thomas E. Partlow. My questions to the good people on your lists are these: Why would J. B. Scobey give money to Nancy E. Hill? Was she a granddaughter or niece to him? If she is a granddaughter, then Mary C. or E. (she's called both here) and William F. are also grandchildren... Mary is deceased, is William? Is that why she mentions their daughters? Is the J. B. Scobey mentioned John Berry Scobey who was b April 9, 1809 and d Aug 1870 in a sawmill accident in Wilson Co., TN.? His 1st wife was Sarah Caroline "Sallie" Sweatt and his 2nd wife was Sarah Neal. How are John G. Ligon and W. B. Ligon related? My notes: John G. Ligon inventory. James E. Scobey, administrator. Recorded 13 Jan 1867 p. 69 from Wills & Inventories 1866-1871 from "The People of Wilson Co, TN 1800-1899" by Thomas E. Partlow This is James Edward Scobey, Sr., who married Sallie Alice Harris. John Ligon was at the very least, a neighbor of J. E. Scobey. >From same publication: John G. Ligon widow's allotment, 17 Dec 1866. Anxious to hear from anyone who may know who these folks are.
