    3. Ann, Here is an interesting entry from Thomas E. Partlow's WILSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, CHANCERY COURT RECORDS 1842-1892: Elizabeth Jones versus Thomas P. Jones of Smith County. The said Elizabeth Jones intermarried on 21 October 1843 Thomas P. Jones. They lived together until April last. At the time of the marriage, Elizabeth was a widow, having been married to a gentleman named Paint by whom she had one living daughter who is the wife of Fielding Walding (sic). By the last marriage, she has two children, to wit, a son John M., born 20 May 1845, and a daughter Amanda, born 21 March last. She has suffered cruel treatment at the hands of her husband. He has charged her with being intimate with a young man, named Charles Simpson. He has also charged her with being intimate with his brother John P. Jones. He has stated that the last child is not his. His only proof is that the does not have the same color eyes as the mother or father. She is seeking a divorce. January 1853 (Chancery Court 1850-1854, Pp. 354-364.) These records are on microfilm at the Archives in Nashville, and probably are available at the County Archives in Lebanon, Tennessee. These are not my family. Just did a lookup for you. 1. [TNWILSON] Thomas/Alcey Wray and Family
    2. J G
    3. Hello All, Really need help on these questions...completely confused!!!! Thomas Wray was married Alcey Wray. I've seen posts listing his children but I was wondering why all the kids are not listed in Alcey's will?? i.e. Luke Wray?? see will at bottom Alcey mentions her son Joseph Wray and then lists two granddaughters, Ann and Emily Wray dau. of Joseph. I've seen this Emily Wray as Emily Wray Covington, wife of William Covington. If Emily was the daughter of Joseph then why does she show up on a guardianship doc. as the minor heir of Luke Wray along with brother Ellison Wray?? They were put under the guardianship of Daniel Glenn. This doc. actually shows James Tipton as the first guardian with his name crossed off and Daniel Glenn's name written in. Then you have my people....Ealy/Aley Wray who died in Oct. 1835. She lists her five children....Didimia Wray Tipton, Carroll, Miniah, Isaac and Nicholas Preston. These last four are also put under the guardianship of Daniel Glenn. In another court doc. Emily Wray Covington contests the will of my Aley/Ealy Wray....indicating that she does have a connection to these people. Theory has it that my Ealy/Aley Wray is actually Elly Daniel who married to Luke Wray, son of Thomas and Alcey Wray. But I'm not sure he would have been the father of all five children....I think the younger ones were born after Luke died in 1814. I'm not sure though as thier ages do not appear on the guardianship papers...all I have is the years that they "became of age" and where no longer under Daniel Glenn's care....assuming that "of age" was 18 back then, that is how I derived a birth year. By carefully reading these docs. I've also discovered that Carroll was actually James Carroll Wray, Miniah was actually Maria/Mariah....Isaac and Nicholas Preston appear as so. Another theory....there was a Margaret Glenn who married to ?? Wray some have said that Carroll, Miniah, Isaac and Nicholas Preston are the children of these two and that is why Daniel Glenn is the guardian. Margaret Glenn did appear to have an uncle named Daniel Glenn. But that still does explain Ellison and Emily Wray and why they are under the Guardianship of Daniel Glenn. Is it Possible that Margaret Glenn married to an Ealy Wray?? If so who was Ealy Wray??? or was Margaret Glenn one of the wives of Luke Wray??? Please find below the wills of Alcey Wray, wife of Thomas and the will of Ealy/Aley Wray. 3. My grgrandfather Isaac Chatham listed in 1850 Wilson C9ounty census, with second wife Susan (daughter of Pleasant Jo9hnson of Wilson County) and children, Benjamin, Mary, William, Nancy and Jaames. Isaac, a shoemaker later moved to Nashville, along with William (my grandfather), and James, and maybe others. James was in a tennessee infantry division, and was killed at the battle of Chicamauga. Isaac's first wife, and presumably mother of his children, was a fullblooded Cherokee Indian. I know that there are some Chathams in Wilson County, and hope that at least one of them is a descxendent of Isaac, If you are a Chatham living in Wilson County, and you might possibly be a descendant of Isaac, wiol you please contact me. Or if you know a Chatham who lives or did live in Wilson County, will you please ask them to contact me. I will appreciate it so very much. Pooling our knowledge may lead to additioal information. My EMail address is DCHATHAM@webtv.net. I need some help in trying to trace Isaac before he came to Wilson County. I think he may have liveed in Caswell Conty, NC. E. Doyle Chatham

    2. Michael, I am not related to any of your family, but am familiar with Stoner Creek, as I lived on its bank while in college. If flows from Mt Juliet westward to Davidson County (Hermitage TN), going approx 2-3 miles from Andrew Jackson's Hermitage. Then southwestward toward Stones River. It meets the river just below Percy Priest Dam and I-40, close to Clover Bottom, where Anderw Jackson used to race horses. If I can be of any further help feel free to write. 3. Well - 1st, let me thank all of you who have responded and helped me! 2nd, Of vourse I won't give up. Finding the deed for James Galloway from Absalom Clifton - while not being what I had hoped, turned out to be the James Galloway of Rockingham NC. The tract of Land while originally in Sumner - turns out to be in Smirth Co. He paid taxes there in 1814 on the grant and sold it in 1828. This James Galloway moved on to Williamson and had 5000 acres on the Duck river. He was part of a big clanfrom Scotland whose father and uncle were Land buyers in TN. ANYWHO - Becuase of this deed it led me to Smith CO wills and invintories were I did find a will for Tilman Dixon in 1816, and guess what/who I should find; runaway - John Galloway - due; 25 Dec.1809 - $18.00 Becuase my John all of sudden appears in Wilson in May 1810 - I know this is my John Galloway! the irony of it! --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? 2. Fredric Z. Saunders
    3. Hi Michael, N stands for North Carolina District. (Not to be confused with North Carolina land grants in Tennessee.) I notice the index lists the land as in Middle District, which at that time was Davidson, Sumner and Tennessee Counties [and included the counties later formed from them.] So, the 1792 and 1793 grants to Absolom (possibly CLIFTON, see below) were in the area of the above three counties. *Tennessee Land Entries-Military Bounty Lands* lists the land as assigned by Absolem CLIFTON's heirs to James GALLAWAY in Sumner County. The actual land grants should contain more details on the specifics of the land, and may mention smaller creeks etc, helping to place the present location of the land. The land entries, warrants, and surveys for this tract may also help to identify the present location of the land. Rick Saunders http://genealogypro.com/fsaunders.html

    1. Re: [TNWILSON] geography and wording questions
    2. Hi Michael! I am not researching your line, but I certainly like your way of thinking. You will certainly find the answers to your questions with the way you are handling your research. I am no genealogy expert, but I have been "at it" for a long time. From my experience, I may be able to help you with some of your questions: 1. "On Stones River" or "On Stoners Creek": I'm sure it depends upon the area of the country, the surveyor, etc., but my experience is that when it says that it does not necessarily mean the land is actually ON the river or creek. More often I have seen "On the waters of . . . " or something like that, indicating they are in that watershed or flood plain, but not actually on the water. They would mention the closest water course, kind of like we would mention a major intersection today. Again, this is from my experience, and may not hold true in all metes and bounds descriptions. 2. "Assignee of Heirs of Absalom Tefton/Tatum PVT".: This tells me that Absalom Tatum has died and his heirs are selling his land warrant. In my experience, I have never found any assignors to be related to any assignees, but surely there are exceptions. You are smart to consider the possibility. I do believe that warrants were often for sale through advertisements or agents. Good luck with your research. Debbie McArdle (In Wilson County: EDWARDS, O'NEAL, HAWKINS, BASS) michael smith wrote: > we only have the Wilson Co deed books at our library - > BUT - I looked through them today to see if the deeds > for Absalon tatum from 1792 & 1793 were in them! 3. Michael, This wording indicates the land (warrant?) was originally given to Absalom Tafton/Tatum who has since died. His heirs have assigned (probably sold) it to James Galloway. This does not mean James himself was an heir.
