While we are on the subject of families moving from Wilson Co TN to Gibson Co TN, is there anyone on the list that might descend from the following couple who made that move? Samuel D. YANDELL, b ca 1819 Sumner Co TN Jane Harriet WOOD, b 28 Dec 1820 Wilson Co TN Samuel & Jane Harriet were married in Wilson Co TN 30 Jul 1839. They were in Gibson Co TN by the 1850 census. I do not know when they died or where they are buried in Gibson Co. I do not know his parents, but she was d/o Reuben WOOD & Jane CURREY who are buried in Sugg's Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Wilson Co TN. I descend from a sibling of Jane Harriet WOOD Yandell. If there should happen to be any person on this list who descends from any of these people, I would like to hear from you. I was born and raised in Dyer, Tn. in Gibson County. There is also a Dyer County that borders Gibson County. A lot of people get this confused. bj
My GGgrandfather Isaac L. Thompson was Pastor of Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Smithville Tn.from about 1883 to 1907. John Thompson
Pat, The Cumberland Presbyterian Church has a website for the denomination : http://www.cumberland.org You will be able to find current information as well as some history. My great grandfather, W. W. Suddarth, was a pastor of the church in the 1860's. Betty

He married Nancy White July 21, 1825 in Wilson Co. The bondsman was Edward White. In January 1832, Ezekiel Cloyd deeded two acres of land, for 25 cents, to the elders of Cloyd's Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Stoner's Creek. Ezekiel's Will was probated in Wilson Co in 1847. Please note: I am NOT a Cloyd family researcher. My interest is in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
The Cumberland Presbyterian Church was founded in 1810 in Dickson, County, TN. It broke off from the Presbyterian Church as an outgrowth of The Great Revival of 1800. The Historical Foundation for the Cumberland Presbyterian Church is located in Memphis, TN Their web site is www.cumberland.org/hfcpc There was a book published by the Church in 1899 titled, "History of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church", by B. W. McDonnold, D.D., LL.D This book contains sketches of many of the early ministers of the Church as well as descriptions of some of the first locations and congregations. The Sumner County Archives in Gallatin, TN has a copy and there is probably a copy at TSLA in Nashville. In the later 1800s the Theological College of the Church was located in Princeton, KY
I live in Dyer Co. which adjoins Gibson Co. on the West. Gibson Co. was established as a county in 1823, the county seat being Trenton (formerly Gibsonport). Dyer TN is a community about 7 miles north of Trenton in Gibson Co. The county was formed from Indian lands. Homesteading and the purchase of land from the Government was probably the biggest drawing card early on. The land was very good for cultivation of all types of crops. Farming was good. Initially it was very sparsely populated. All of these factors combined pulled from Middle and East Tennessee which was by then becoming more and more populated .Finally, it was on direct route to the Mississippi (which Dyer Co. borders), Arkansas lands, and Texas. Gibson Co. also borders Madison Co., Weakley Co. Carroll Co. Crockett Co. and Obion Co. -----Original Message----- From: Kevin Moore [SMTP:kevin@arizonadoves.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 08, 2002 11:15 PM To: TNWILSON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNWILSON] Dyer, Tennessee I also have many Wilson County ancestors who migrated to Gibson County. Dyer, TN is a town in Gibson Co., and many from Wilson and Rutherford Cos migrated to Gibson. Sounds like she was taken back home for burial in the family plot. Now to make things more difficult, Dyer Co adjoins Gibson Co, near the town of Dyer. That is exactly where our families ended up...Wilson, McKnight, Grier, Thomas. Milton had previously been married 1834 to Lydia Alexander. You say Ezekial Cloyd died in 1814. But then this must be a son also a minister or the date of death must be wrong. I am trying to find how he is connected to the VA McGehee's. This same Ezekial Cloyd was in Weakley Co TN in 1846 and married Milton again after his 2nd wife died. . Thanks Pat
