I grew up and was in high school when they flooded Percy Priest. All the graves were moved I know because a friend of my father's was with the corp of engineers. They excavated 1 square foot of earth in the center of all known graves that were not well defined by casket or vault and relocated them. I'm sure contacting the CofE they can tell you where the remains were relocated.

My g-granparents, Samuel Allen Patton and Elizabeth E. Martin are buried there. I'm told that it's at the intersection of Vesta and Gladeville Roads. I found and old note that says the cemetery is "On Simpson B. Lannom land, owned in 1972 by Elvin Maddux on Spring Creek, now Percy Priest Lake." I have my fingers crossed that it's not now underwater. Any help gratefully appreciated.
I am looking at a couple of 1820s deeds for Wilson County that refer to lot and tract numbers. They are on the waters of Spring Creek and I am pretty sure they are not town lots. One deed refers to "the old tract eleven," others to numbered lots. I have looked at other Wilson County deeds but so far haven't seen others like this. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks, Jan

Kathleen, Thank you so much for your reply. I did get a copy of Barnett and Elizabeth's Marriage record from the Wilson County Archives, so I will send for a copy of Jesse Sullivan's probate as well. I am hoping that his children might be mentioned by name(s) in it. From the info you show for the marriages, I think that if Jesse Sullivan was the Father to Barnett, then Barnett's Mother would be Ann Rice. Anything that you could send me on this line and the Sinclair line would be so appreciated. You can send it to me on the list, or privately if it might be of any large amount. Thank you so much!!! Barbara, I am not a Sullivan or Sinclair researcher but I have several Wilson Co books. I find the following: From booklet "Index to Wilson Co Wills, 1802-1861" Jesse Sullivan had a Will in Probate in 1846 J. W. Sullivan had a Will in Probate in 1861 You can order copies of Wills and marriage records from the Wilson Co Archives in Lebanon for a small fee. From "Marriages of Wilson Co TN, 1802-1850" by Edythe Whitley 1. Jesse Sullivan was married to Ann Rice April 16, 1814 by Jacob Sullivan. The bond was issued April 9, 1814 and the bondsman was Holland Sullivan 2. Holland Sullivan married Polly Ozment Sept 12, 1814 with James Ozment bondsman. 3. Jesse Sullivan married Elizabeth Carter July 13, 1820 with Owen Quinby bondsman. It looks like Jacob Sullivan was either a Minister or Justice of the Peace because he performed a few marriages in early Wilson Co. There are only a handful of Sinclair marriages in Wilson Co before 1850. Would you like to see them? I have the 1830, 1840 and 1850 Census of Wilson Co. Would you like lookups from them? Hello List Members, I just joined your list and am researching these lines from Wilson County. My paternal great great grandfather was Barnett James SULLIVAN. He was born about 1817 in North Carolina. He married Elizabeth SINCLAIR on December 22, 1838 in Wilson County. She was born about 1812 in TN. I believe, but have no proof, that Barnett is the son of Jesse SULLIVAN, born between 1790-1800. I also think that Elizabeth may be the daughter of James Sinclair (I have also seen this as St. Clair), born between 1770-1780. This Barnett and Elizabeth later moved to Saline County, IL sometime between 1850 and 1860. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Barbara Rhine Crain

I am trying to find info on the Thomas family , in Statesville, Wilson Co. Tennessee. My greatgrandmother was Mary Jane Thomas. The Jane may not be correct. It is possible her mother was a Williams. She had a brother in Kentucky named Amber. She also had a brother named Jim, in Statesville. Would like any other info anyone may have. Mary Robertson Roberson MaryR128@aol.com

Does anyone on this list happen to have a picture of Fall Creek Baptist Church? I would love to include a picture in the genealogy book I am putting together. Also can someone tell me who wrote Fall Creek Baptist Church History so I can give the credit due? Thanks for any help. Susan Lane
Haven't posted for a while so I thought I'd throw some of mine back in the mix! My g-grandmother was Nettie "Mayford" BENNET BARNES, born the daughter of Cleveland ?Samuel? BENNETT and Hattie Jane MOSS in 1912 Jackson County, TN. She moved with her husband, Grundy Herbert BARNES, and children to Wilson County in 1940. Cleveland ?Samuel? BENNETT was born about 1884 and died before 1968. I have yet to locate his parents. Hattie Jane MOSS was born in 1893 to Albert Kirkpatrick MOSS and Matilda LAWSON. She was still living when Mayford died in 1968. Albert Kirkpatrick MOSS was born approximately 1850 to William and Amanda MOSS who I can find as early as 1840 Jackson County, TN. Looking for any leads or connections!! Kymm
It's time for my semi-regular posting of one of my Smith brick walls. Bert Smith, (full name thought to be Burtram/Bertram/possibly Bertrand Trammell Smith) b. 1835 in Wilson County, TN (Lebanon), d. 1908 in Lebanon,TN. He married Sarah Elizabeth 'Betty' Fakes (she used the maiden name Brown, also, because her mother remarried to Harrison C Brown when Betty was about 7 years old). in Wilson County. His marriage record says Bertrand Smith. The 1850 Wilson County census shows a Burtrane (?) Smith, age 12 or 15 (I can't tell which), living in the household of James Hatcher(household #979) in the 6th Civil District. I've followed up on the possibility that James Hatcher's wife might be Bert's sister but it doesn't appear to be so. The next time I find Bert is: 1860 Lockporte, Dist 6, Wilson Co., TN p. 304: David Young 32 M/Farmer/Real Property $7000/Personal $1320/b.TN. Elizabeth Young 33 F/b.VA. Francis Young 16 F/TN. David E. Young 13 M/TN/school in yr. Adaline Young 11 F/TN/school in yr. Bertrand Smith 25 M/Farm Laborer/TN. Then: 1870 District 5, Lebanon P.O., Wilson Co., TN p. 404: B.T. Smith 35 M/W/Farmer/TN. Sarah E. 26 F/W/Keeping House/TN. Nancy [G. ?] 3 F/W/at home/TN. James F. 2 M/W/at home/TN. I find Bert/Burt again on the 1880 Wilson County Census which shows the following: Fifth Civil Distrtict, County of Wilson, State of Tennessee Page 10, Supervisor's Dist. No. 3, Enumeration Dist. No. 251 Dwelling 77 Smith, Burtram T 45 farmer TN TN Sarah B 36 keeping house KY TN TN Nancy L. 13 James T. 12 works on farm Sarah F. 9 William B. 7 Laura E. 4 Alexis M. 1 (Denise's note--the name should be Alexon) Now, I know there were a lot of Smiths in that area at the time but I can't seem to place my Bert/Burt with any of them. I have no idea who his parents were. If anyone here has thoughts on this, I'd love to hear from you. This one is making me crazy! :-)

Starting today 6/10/2002 and extending for a few days, RootsWeb is going to be moving the list servers and other machines. It isn't expected that messages will be lost the lists will be up and down for awhile. Please do not post to the list saying "Where is the email?" or "Why aren't my messages going out?" etc. Mail will run properly again when the system is running and we don't want to clog the lists with mail from people asking where their mail is! This change will affect the RW website, also, so if you have trouble getting to something at Rootsweb, just try again later. Thanks!
