    1. Re: [TNWILSON] Guardianship of Nancy Jennings
    2. Myron E. Williams
    3. Nathan Sparks would have been appointed guardian of Nancy Jennings by a court. The answer to your question will be in the court minutes. You may find those at the Wilson County Archives. Thomas E. Partlow has compiled, indexed, and published a lot of the Wilson County records. He is one of the curators of the archives and most helpful. The Mormons have microfilmed many of the Tennessee records. You can view their films for a small fee at any Family History Center. See their website for details: www.familysearch.org But if you can get to Murfreesboro, you can surely get to the archives in Lebanon. That will be your best source. Myron E. TN, 1802-1850. The entry reads "Nathan Sparks Guardian. 22 September 1832. Guardian of Nancy Jennings, she having come of age. (P. 496)." I am researching Jesse H. Sparks son of Nathan Sparks (1775-1844). I want to know who Nancy Jennings was and how she came to be under the guardianship of Nathan Sparks. Also when was Nancy Jennings living in the household of Nathan Sparks and for how long. I have no other information about Nancy Jennings, nor am I sure that this is the correct Nathan Sparks, the family is so large. 1. Re: Naming for Doctors...
    2. I noted with interest the items about naming and particularly for doctors. My grandfather was named Hughes "Huse" Alexander Jones and his wife was Lucy Hughes Banister. I have been told they were both named for the same old doctor who delivered them, but I have found no record so far of a Dr. Hughes .. Perhaps Hughes was his first name? or was it Dr. Hughes ALEXANDER? Does anyone know of a Dr. Hughes or a Dr Hughes Unknown who lived in the Wilson/Davidson County area and delivering babies around 1894-1899 Thanks Vivian Eakes Hull

    3. I don't know anything about the name Captain Luck, but I know what you mean about giving strange names. One of my grandfather's brothers was named Rev John Newton Jett. His parents were admirers of the local minister whose name was Reverend John Newton. Thus, Rev (no period) John Newton Jett. He was called Rev all his life. I check a couple of books I have on Wilson Co., but could find nothing regarding this man. The only Knight listed was William M. 3. These entries for Ragland from Thomas E. Partlow's WILSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, CHANCERY COURT RECORDS 1842-1892, might prove to be interesting: 1. Mary Ragland versus Pettes Ragland. On 2 July 1805 Mary Ragland intermarried with Pettes Ragland. They had fourteen children, eight of whom are now living, to wit, Harriet who is single, Harding, William, Joseph, Pettes, Finis E., and Samuel Ragland. For the past twenty years, the said Pettes Ragland has been very dissipated, being addicted to ardent spirits. He has trated his wife in a manner unbecoming to a husband. He has struck her with his fist and with a broom stick. She has been forced to take refuge with her son in law, Robert Lampkin. She is seeking a divorce. 29 March 1843 (Chancery Court 1842-1845, Pp. 94-97) 2. Bill of complaint of W. H. Burke and wife nancy; and B. J. Tarver, administrator of Calvary Johnson, against E. A. Ragland, John B. Hatcher and wife Pocahontas, F. E. Ragland, and Francis C. of Wilson County; J. P. Ragland, R. V. Ragland, S. D. Ragland, W. B. Sweat and wife Elizabeth, non residents of the State. Mrs. Calvary Johnson died intestate several years ago, leaving eight children whose nams are listed, except F. E. Ragland who married a daughter of the intestate. March 1874 (Chancery Book 1871-1874, Pp. 539-541) Might Mary Ragland have married Calvary Johnson after her divorce from Pettes? Hope these may be of some help. They are not my people.
