Did she have another name? For example, Daddy told me one of his aunt's name was Carrie. As I was searching through census records I found one census to say one name was Carrie "V"..... then learned later she was called Vera. Possibly she could have been listed under another name. Their father's name was Samuel Clark Knight. Some census records show him as Clark Knight & others as Samuel. Maybe you could have some luck searching by looking at census recoreds that have other names in the family the same as the one you have. He also had another aunt named Bittie Knight...... she married a Jones but I've never found any information on her. Hope you're able to find what you're looking for.

Surnames: Patterson, Medlin, Mount, Hight Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UiB.2ACI/1263.2 Message Board Post: Patricia, Perry Patterson that is living with Richard Mount in 1870 was also living with him in 1860. Perry is my gggrandfather. Searching his parentage is very frustrating as there does not seem to be any clues. I learned from someone on genforum that he was named in the will of Lewis Patterson but I have not located the contents of that will on the internet. A distant cousin of mine (whom I found through internet message board) said there was a family story that he had come from Ireland in the 1850's but on all the census records his birth place is given as TN. Brent Mount told me that he might be the son of Ozro Patterson son of William Patterson and Louella Hight. I cannot find ANYTHING on an Ozro Patterson. I do know that Perry traveled through Missouri and into Arkansas where family stories say his oldest son Wesley Alexander was married to Sarah Brock in Pea Ridge. Both families then moved on to Collins and Hopkins counties in Texas. Coincidentally (or maybe not so coincidentally) my grandfather Perry Patterson, grandson of Perry settled in McDonald County Missouri which is where I understand your William Carroll Patterson moved when he left Tennessee. My grandfather used to state that ten or eleven families of Pattersons moved from Wilson Co. into southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas but Perry moved on to Texas. I feel very certain that my Perry is related to your William Carroll as my grandfather said that his father, Wesley Alexander Patterson was double cousin to Charlie Patterson and Della Mae Patterson. I think Charlie is the son of Sampson Uriah and Della is the daughter of William Martin, both sons of William Carroll. Perry married Amanda Medlin who was the daughter of Russell Medlin and Sara Fary Patterson. I think she (Amanda) is a sister to Martha Medlin who married William Sneed. Sallie Sneed daughter of Martha and William married Sampson Uriah son of your William Carroll. Perry and Amanda (Mandy) had the following children: Wesley Alexander b. 1872 Wilson Co., TN, Minnie Pearl b. 1874 Wilson Co., Robert Allen b. 1877 Wilson Co.,? , Dalton L. b. 1880 TN, Oscar Bates b. 1880 TN and Ellise (Elsie) Celeste b. 1888 Denton Co., TX. If any of this sounds like it fits into your Patterson line, please let me know as I am stumped. Beth Roller e-mail [email protected]

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UiB.2ACI/1306.2 Message Board Post: There are several records at which you will want to look. First, read some explanations regarding the guardian records in Wilson County in an article where I abstracted some guardian records at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnwcogs/wills/guardian.html Nancy JENNINGS is not listed there, but that "list" I abstracted from the Court Minute Book is not a complete list of all Wilson County guardianships. As mentioned there, this list was prepared by the clerk to apparently keep track of those guardianships still continuing in 1832. Since the mention you found stated she had come of age in 1832, that is probably why she was not on this list. Things which you should follow up on, either at the Wilson County Archives, or by ordering the appropriate microfilms to a Family History Center should include: 1. Examine the original entry in the Will and Inventory book for which you found the published abstract. This should include an accounting of money spent. You asked when Nancy JENNINGS was living in the household of Nathan SPARKS. While she MAY have been in his household it is also possible she was not. The main role of the guardian was to watch over the finances and give an account of money due their ward until they came of age. If Nancy's father had died, and her mother was still living, she may have still lived at home. If both parents were deceased, she may have been boarded out to live with what ever person would bid for the least expensive care for her. The account would show who SPARKS paid money to for her living expenses and schooling, or may indicate that she was in his household. The final account may list expenses over several years, and indicate if she was living with different people for different years. Also examine the ORIGINAL Will and Inventory boo! ks individual indexes for earlier mentions regarding her guardianship. The author of the abstracted book you mentioned often only listed the first and/or last mentions of a guardianship that appeared in the Will and Inventory books, and not ALL mentions. 2. There is an index to Wilson County loose County Court records. Examine that to see if the original bond for when Nathan SPARKS was appointed her guardian is listed. This will give you a copy of his original signature, which you can compare with those of other men named Nathan SPARKS, to help you determine if you have the correct one. This will also give the names (signatures) of his security on the bond, which were often relatives or close friends. From the date of that bond, you can go to the appropriate session of the County Court minutes (#3 below). There may also be other loose records regarding her guardianship. 3. Examine the County Court minutes. The WPA did a transcript of those through 1824. After that, you will need to examine the original books. Start with the minutes for 22 Sep. 1832, and see what they may list regarding the case. If through either #2 above or in reading the court minutes you can find when Nathan SPARKS was appointed her guardian, that court entry MAY (but not necessarily) state who she was the daughter of. She married a Thomas Alexander (my ggg-grandfather) in Lebanon, Wilson Co., 11 Jan 1825, so appears to be too young to be your Nancy. Anyone know anything about MY Nancy W. 3. Nathan could be a step father or uncle...but I don't think you'll find a relationship in the court minutes...they usually just state that he was appointed guardian, gives accountings but no relationship is mentioned...he could be a brother in law to one of her parents or a brother to one of her parents as well...
