Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UiB.2ACI/1328 Message Board Post: Shores DNA Project Participant Search In January of 2006 we initiated a “Shores” surname project through Family Tree DNA. This project is designed to provide irrefutable evidence of known and unknown family relatives. Through the technology of DNA testing, more specifically, y-line or males only testing, we can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, purported connections to family, or as yet completely unknown connections. This test has the ability to reach back to the dawn of civilization through the miracle of DNA. The fingerprint of a thousand generations will be displayed in one y-line chromosome test. Indications from the first participants test results show that at least one branch of Shores originated and migrated within the northern European, British Isles--Britain, Ireland, Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, and Eastern Canada--all Viking populations, to North America. We are searching for male Shores individuals from any branch family to participate in a Y Chromosome DNA test. If you are a male Shores family member, or know of a cousin, uncle, father, grandfather that has a Shores surname, we ask that you please consider participating in this surname project. The following is just a sample of some of the branches from which we are seeking DNA participants: Reuben Shores: born 1790 TN, moved to Wayne County, Illinois. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Hiram Shores: born 1802 KY, moved to Wayne County, Illinois. We have a DNA representative for this branch but need another. William Shores: born 1800 NC, moved to Wayne County, Illinois. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Levi Shores: b. 1805 NC, moved to Wayne County, Illinois. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Calvin Shores: born 1815 AL, moved to Craighead County, AR ca 1830, from Wayne County, Illinois. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Jonathan Shores: born to as yet unknown parents in 1794 in KY. Lived in Wilson County, TN. No confirmed connection to any other Shores branch at this time. We have a DNA representative for this line but are looking for another. Phillip Shores: sibling to Jonathan, born to as yet unknown parents in 1793 in KY, lived in Wilson Cty, TN and moved to Macaupin Cty, IL in 1850’s. No confirmed connection to any other Shores branch at this time. We need a DNA representative for this branch. Those families named above and their respective individual branches, represent merely the beginning of the project. We welcome any participant from any Shores branch. We are sure you will want more information than this brief single document of introduction, so please reference our website: www.familytreedna.com/public/shores. The web site will provide a brief insight to what we are doing and why we are trying to do it. Please click on “FAQ about DNA testing…” on the lower left hand side of the site to get to some of the questions I am sure you have. On the upper left hand side of the web site you will see a tab to “Join this Group”. If you click on this tab you will go to the form to submit to a DNA y-line test. By joining through this form and our surname project, you can receive a discount on the cost of the test—as opposed to simply taking the test independently. While the 12 marker test gets you in the game, we would strongly suggest that you submit to the 37 marker y-line test. This test can prove a common ancestor within the last 150-200 years without any doubt. In this way, we and our test matches on both sides of the Atlantic can work both backwards and forwards to connect to new ancestors and descendants that are matched with our res! ults--hopefully locating the missing links to our Northern European origins. We will be attempting to contact as many Shores surname candidates as we can to participate in this surname project. Not only do I hope you will join us in the project, we sincerely hope that you will contact all those in your Shores database to join in the project as well, as the more tests we can refer to in our research, the better chance we have to make the confirmed connection. When we make that confirmed connection to our Northern European origins, we want you to be a part of it. Regards, Carl Shores Group Administrator Shores Surname Project Chandler, AZ [email protected]
Looking for parents and siblings of Harriett Ann Moore (b 1810 NY) and Solomon Calvin Page (supposedly a cousin b 1805 TN) who married 1829 in Nashville, TN. Harriett's father may have been Dr. Francis Moore Sr. and her mother Rachel (maiden name unknown). It is believed she had brothers, Francis Jr., Abram, John David and possibly others. Harriett and Solomon C. Page had two children, James and Virginia. Solomon Page was said to be a merchant/salesman who lived or did business near Nashville, TN. Harriett's father, Francis Moore, left TN by 1835 for Texas. Harriett & Solomon were in New Orleans, LA by 1834. Are these Moore's or Page's yours? Thanks,

Hi Pat: I am working on Grief B. Hawkins (died before 29 Sept. 1835, Wilson County, TN) and his 3rd wife, Dorcas Midgett O'Neal Hawkins who married in Wilson County, TN 1 November 1833. Dorcas MIDGET is my line by her first husband, John O'NEAL, who she married in Wilson County in 1812. I have some information on Grief B. HAWKINS' family. This family lived in the area between Saulsbury / Commerce / Watertown along the waters of Round Lick Creek on the very eastern edge of Wilson County. Other surnames associated with this HAWKINS / MIDGET marriage are EDWARDS, O'NEAL, JENKINS, BELL, HENRY, MURPHY and BASS. Grief B. & Dorcas MIDGETT O'NEAL HAWKINS had one child, Faitha / Faithey HAWKINS who married Warren MURPHY in 1851, Wilson County, TN. Dorcas and Grief were married less than 2 years when he died. Dorcas supposedly went on to live to be well over 100 years old (family legend), though I have never been able to locate any death or burial information on her. It would be interesting to know exactly when she died as she was born in 1793. If you think I can help further with your HAWKINS line, please let me know. Debbie WARD McArdle (Descendent of John EDWARDS & Polly BASS of Wilson County, TN. My EDWARDS line lived in Wilson County about 1800-1840, though some lines like Dorcas MIDGET O'NEAL HAWKINS lived there until her death, probably about 1900.) ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, January 30, 2006 7:21 PM Subject: [TNWILSON] Fuqua and Hawkins in Wilson Co 1830's to 1850's This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
