I know quite a bit about two of Harris & Elizabeth Ogilvie's children, Mary Ogilvie Allen & William W. Ogilvie. However, I would like to know more of the family of Frances Ogilvie & John Rains Jr. John Rains Jr was a son of John Rains, the well known Indian scout/fighter. I have a record, "Felix Robertson Rains was the 6th of 13 children of John Rains Jr & Frances Ogilvie," but I don't know any more of this family. During the Civil War, one of my Allen cousins from Marshall Co (a grandson of Mary Ogilvie Allen), was captured and imprisoned at Camp Morton in Indianapolis. In a letter from his wife, she advises him to "write Rob Rains" for help in getting a release. Who was Rob Rains, & why might he have been able to help in getting a release from POW camp? HARRIS OGILVIE, b. 1758 Granville Co NC; d: 1823, Davidson Co TN; m: 1781 to Elizabeth Amis, b: 1755; d: 1838; buried near Oglesby Community, TN. They had 4 adult children: 1> MARY 'POLLY' OGILVIE, b: 1782, Granville Co; d: 1855, Caney Spring, TN; m: 1804 Davidson Co to George Hunt Allen, b: 1780 NC; d: 1874 Caney Spring, TN; seven children: Grant Iverson, Harris Ogilvie, Elizabeth A., Frances M., William, Mary A.B. 2> FRANCES OGILVIE, b: 1784, Granville Co NC; d:?; m: 1 Jan. 1800 to John Rains (Jr). 3> NANCY OGILVIE, b: 1787, Granville Co NC; d. ?; m: 18 July 1809, Henry Bailey. At least 5 children: Philip M. Bailey, Cinthia A. Bailey (m. William H. White), Mary A. Bailey (m. Samuel Gentry II), Martha S. Bailey (m. Benjamin Adams), Lucy V. Bailey (m. Howell). 4> WILLIAM W. OGILVIE, b: 1790, Granville Co NC; d: 1860, Davidson Co TN; m: 1812 in Davidson County, TN, Matilda Blurton/Blanton, b: cl794 in Georgia; d: 1854. 7 Children: George Washington, James Harrison (or Harris), Elizabeth Ann (m: 3 Oct. 1837 William C. Hunt), Mary Ann, William Smith, Benton Harris, John Randolph. >You may remember that I am also interested in Ainlsey McMahon and his >relationship to Daniel. He married a Little, my great great aunt. I remember your interest in Ainlsey McMahon, but I haven't been able to develope any more info of note re McMahon's. I did find reference to "Daniel McMahan's corner" re land on the Big Harpeth in 1786 Davidson Co records. Bill Allen allen@nconnect.net West Bend, WI
