    3. Hello All, It's great finding so much activity on a list. Darlene, you must be doing something right! New here and I'm trying to research my Marshall line. They were one of the early pioneer families into Middle Tennessee. The first Gilbert (#1) was married to Catherine Fitzpatrick. I've heard they were English (however, family lore says they were Scottish). I've heard a story about how they fled to the Borders during the Reformation and then to County Antrim. In this story they were titled "Sir Gilbert and Lady Catherine". I've heard from a "cousin" who has John Marshall (b. 1654) as the first Gilbert's father. No mother listed. She has Catherine's parents as John Fitzpatrick (b. 1662) His wife (Catherine's mother) was also "Catherine" (b. 1662). My problem is my inability to document any of this. My immigrating ancestor, whose information I feel fairly comfortable with, Gilbert Marshall (#2) (1715-1801) and his wife, Martha Rowan (Roan??) (1730-1798) were married in Antrim on 1 Jun 1748 in (maybe) Carnmoney. Martha's parents were William Rowan and Jane Marshall. The "Sir Gilbert & Lady Catherine" story says the Rowans were a well known family in Antrim County history. Does anyone have a lead on them? Gilbert & Martha had the following children: Jane b. 21 Apr 1750 in Ireland +Samuel Davis Mary b. 21 Dec 1751 in Little Britain, PA +Joseph Love Catherine b. 10 Mar 1754 in Albemarle County, VA John b. 24 Jan 1755 in Albemarle County, VA William b. 02 Nov 1757 in Albemarle County, VA +Ann Bell (my gggg grandparents) Martha b. 04 Oct 1759 in Albemarle County, VA +Barnaby Broyles Gilbert (#3) b. 21 Mar 1762 in Albemarle County, VA d. 1782 Battle of Blue Licks KY Hannah b. 09 Feb 1765 in Albemarle County, VA +Patrick McCutcheon (McKutchen) +(2nd) James Price Elizabeth b. 19 Nov 1766 in Albemarle County, VA +William Turnbull (moved to Ohio??) Margaret b. 21 Mar 1768 in Albemarle County, VA +John Larkins James b. 12 Mar 1771 in Albemarle County, VA +Margaret Wilson Sarah b. 23 May 1773 in Albemarle County, VA +David Cloyd All this family moved from Virginia to middle Tennessee in about 1787. William (my ggggg grandfather) received a land grant from North Carolina for his service in the Revolutionary War. His father, Gilbert, also received a grant. William's was 320 acres on the bank of the Big Harpeth River. They ended up in Davidson, Williamson, Marshall counties in Tennessee. Is anyone else researching this line? I'd really like to learn more about Gilbert Marshall and Catherine Fitzpatrick...where they were really from but have not idea where to start. Any suggestions? These must be free as I have no money to invest in this investigation. Will appreciate any information. Thanks in advance. Lynda Marshall mailto:mikelyn@e-tex.com
