From Williamson County, Tennessee Loose Records: 1807 – Noble STOCKETT died in testate. He left a widow, Susanna, and three children: Stephen, Samuel and Noble STOCKETT, minors. Susanna has since married Robert HULME. Robert HULME and Susanna were appointed administrators in May 1803 Robert HULME is wasting and destroying the said estate. Loose Records 1829-1839 From Williamson County Loose Records, 1829-1839: James SHELBURN et al vs. Susan BROWN James SHELBURN and wife, Susan, Theophilus L. GENTRY and wife Rebecca G., Williamson JORDAN and wife Ann B., all of Williamson County, Tennessee. Joseph H. STOCKETT left a will dated 27 July 1819. He left to Susan STOCKETT, now Susan BROWN, and Col. Nicholas T. PERKINS, William EDMINSTON for the use of the children of his departed sister, Elizabeth, the wife of Doctor Thomas SAPPINGTON: Susan, Rebecca, Ann and Thomas. Susan STOCKETT has married Aaron BROWN and he is long since dead. Susan L. SAPPINGTON has married James SHELBURN. Rebecca B. SAPPINGTON has married Theopolis GENTRY. Ann SAPPINGTON has married Williamson JORDAN. In a deposition, Aaron V. BROWN of Giles County, Tennessee states, "at the time his father, Aaron BROWN married Susan STOCKETT, Susan and Rebecca were at the Female Academy in Nashville at school and at the expiration of that term lived with my father as members of the family. He saw in his brother William's handwriting in the account book for their board. Miss Ann Sappington was living with Susan STOCKETT at the time of her marriage and came with her to Giles County and lived here about two years." Deposition of Thomas SAPPINGTON, aged 49 years - 28 September 1832 - Mrs. BROWN told me and the mother of my children that she intended in case of her outliving T. W. STOCKETT to divide her property equally between my children and some of her blood connections. While my wife was living Mrs. BROWN solicited and obtained permission to take Ann, an infant, and raise and educate her. She remained with her for years after my wife's death until I determined to remove her. At other person's judgment and the dying request of my wife, I was induced to offer her the raising of my children. She refused as to the three oldest but kept Ann. After the death of my wife (about one year before the death of her father, T. W. STOCKETT) I put the three eldest children (Susan, Rebecca and Thomas) to board with Mr. Henry BROWN under the tutorship of Mr. B. McCONNICO. Mrs. BROWN took them from the school without my permission alleging they were too young to board and wished for them to remain with her. On my way to Missouri, on a traveling tour for my health, I called on Mrs. BROWN, then Mrs. STOCKETT. Joseph H. STOCKETT was alive at the time and was present. On my return from Missouri about 15 or 16 months later, J. H. STOCKETT had died. I still being very much indisposed, set to Mrs. BROWN to send the children to my brother, R. B. SAPPINGTON. She refused saying Susan and Rebecca were at the Female Academy in Nashville and that I could see them there or at her house. After she married Mr. BROWN, I went to their house to see if she wanted the children to remain with her. She said her home was to be their home until death or their marriage. Shortly afterwards, I took Thomas with me and in about two years, I took them all. Deposition of John MCCUTCHIN, aged 79 years (same date) Deposition of Catherine MCCUTCHIN, aged 61 years (same date) Deposition of William Edminston, Aged 40 years.
Hi Colleen, I have been researching Stocketts of Willianson county. I am expecially interested in Lucy Stockett, the daughter of Stephen Stockett and Nancy Armstrong. I have her birth as 1822, and on 9 Oct 1843, she married in Williamson county, Alexander Calvin Sexton, and they became my husband Edwin Dozier Sexton's great grandparents. I have been very fortunate in finding Lucy's parents, and grandparents. However I have been unable to establish who were the parents of Alexander, and if there were any siblings. I know your interest is Stocketts, but since you have done such extensive research, I can't help but ask if you by any chance ran accross these two. There were 11 children, 9 of which were born in Williamson county, and 2 in Davidson. Alexander and Lucy seems to have lived their entire lifetime there, mostly in Williamson county. They were there in census 1850, 1860, and 1870. !870 was the last census in which Alexander appeared, but Lucy and youngest daughter Mary were in the 1880 census, in son Stephen's household. I would really appreciate any help or advise you have to offer. I doubt that anything I that would help you, you seem to be way beyond me. However anything I have you are welcome to.
