I found this in the 1880 census..It has a Mary E. as mother and a Mary L as a daughter....Now, if this Mary E. was widowed and married the Owen gentleman, a child this young would probably use the stepfather's name, and even carry it to her grave...there are other Mary Lou's in the census but they don't have a Mary as a mother....I don't find an L.R. Owen 1839-1892 Mary Lou Owen 1879-1880 "daughter of L.R. & M.E. Owen" William N[?] Owen 1886[?]-1893[?] "son of L.R. & M.E. Owen" According to marriage records, L. Robert Owen & Mary M. [Sneed] Williams [widow] married in 1881. I do not know of any connection betweens the Owens and the Sneeds before this marriage (the cemetery is Mary's family). Mary Lou was born 2 years before this marriage, and the stone clearly indicates that her (and William's) parents were L. R. & M. *E*. Owen. Are the dates and/or parents' names on the stones wrong? Or is there some other explanation? Any help would be appreciated!
