Several weeks ago I placed madison County TNGenWeb up for adoption so I could reduce my time commitment to it. I left all the files online because I always intended them to belong to TNGenWeb. The new CC will be moving Madison County to Rootsweb. Over the last 24 hours I have been moving most of the files to TNGenWeb Records. Jonathan Smith's Death Notice abstracts from the Western Weekly Review, formerly at Madison County TNGenWeb, are now at http://www.tngenweb.org/records/williamson/ Laurel has sent six files for the small third volume. I hope to get them online late next week. They too will appear at the address above. David soon-to-be-ex-CC Madison County TNGenWeb

http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/wwr/wwr1-14.htm The abstracts of 1834 death notices from the Western Weekly review are online. Lotteries are nothing new in Tennessee. With the abstracts is a long item about the state lottery for the heirs of Robert Dyer. This item has to do with Madison County rather than Williamson but it is interesting all the same. At this time period there were many lotteries, so many that most failed. It was expensive to play. A ticket for the Dyer lottery costs $8 in 1834 dollars (when gold was worth $20.68 per ounce). Further down in the file is a list of delegates to a state constitutional convention. I think that the 1835 constitution was the first to ban lotteries. David
http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/wwr/wwr1-01.htm The 1835 death notice abstracts are now online. I may have already said this, but if not here it is again. I met Jonathan Smith Saturday at the library in Jackson. He had just finished the third volume of these death notice abstracts. The microfilm reels he used cover 1830-1861 and I assume the three volumes together will cover the same period. David
http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/wwr/wwr1-01.htm The death notice abstracts for 1837 have been added. David
http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/wwr/wwr1-01.htm 1836, 1839, and the Addenda have been added. David
http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/wwr/wwr1-01.htm The 1833 and 1838 entries from Jonathan K. T. Smith's "Death Notices and Other Gleanings from the Western Weekly Review Franklin, Tennessee 1831-1840" are now online. David
