About a year ago, I sent a message to the board and got a wonderful response in trying to help me clarify some entries on the Marshall Cemetery. I have seen the entry in the Williamson County Burials Volume 1 which lists on page 188 the following: Bettie M. Andrews James A. Barnes Henry, James, Susan, William and William M. Brown Ann, Ann Eliza, Eliza A., Francis G., Gilbert, Martha, Mary C., W. A. and William Marshall Mary C. Sweeney Mary C. Tulloss Mary C. Turner Then I was passed this on from the Williamson County Directories Cemeteries (I think done in the 1930's by the WPA). It lists: Betty Andrews James Barnes Henry, James, Susan, William and William M. Brown Marshalls: Ann, Ann Eliza, Eliza A., Francis G., Gilbert, Martha Kennedy, Mary C., W. A., and William. Sweeney, Mary C. S. Tulloss, Mary C. Turner, Mary C. The Kennedy's listed on this page I am very interested in. The lady who sent me this list was an Ann Myhre. She was not feeling well at the time and said she would get me dates on the Kennedy's later. These Kennedy's are all related to Martha Kennedy Marshall who was one of the wives of Gilbert Marshall. William is her brother and I think the other two are probably his children. Another survey was done and put in book form in 1969. It is a very small book. I cannot locate the name of the book or the authors right now. The book does not attempt to list all the cemeteries in Williamson County or even lists all burials in a cemetery. Anyway the lists has basically the same listings as the ones above but it also lists Amanda Kennedy. Amanda was a spinster sister of Martha Kennedy Marshall. She went to live with Martha and died there in 1891. I tried to e-mail Ann the other night but evidently the e-mail is not good anymore. If anyone else has this list and could give me dates on the Kennedy's I would appreciate it very much. Also the lady at the archives said she would like to have all these other names as the lists they have does not include them. The cemetery has been completely abandoned and the stones have probably sunk over the years and the last surveys did not reveal them. Martha, William and Amanda were my 4th great-aunts and uncles. I would love to have the info on William and his family as I do not have them. I have Martha and Amanda's dates from the two books. Any help with the list and the dates would be great. Rick
http://www.tngenweb.org/records/williamson/ The final files for the Western Weekly Review have been uploaded. The 1831-1840 volume includes a file with images of six pages of clippings. I have added a search engine for either the Williamson County Records Repository or Williamson County TNGenWeb. The search engine for the records repository will not work until there is another search web crawl by TNGenWeb, hopefully in July. The WWR book indices are OK for searching for surnames but the search engine will allow a search by geographic location. The search engine for Williamson County TNGenWeb works now. The last TNGebWeb search crawl was in early May. Many thanks go to Jonathan Smith who did the abstracts and has allowed his books to be placed online. Many more thanks go to Laurel Baty who purchased the microfilm and scanned the books (Mr. Smith uses a typewriter!). David David

On the 1848 item that has been questioned, the web page correctly transcribes Jonathan Smith's book. The 1846 death year may be a typo on Mr. Smith's part. The other problem may involve an age which was either misread by Mr. Smith in 2004 or set wrong by the typesetter in 1848. The only way to tell would be to look at the microfilm. Old newspapers on microfilm are often extremely difficult to read. There are mistakes in any abstracting work like this, so you do need to verify everything. If you find an entry that is wrong, the best thing to do would be to get a full copy of the obituary/death notice from the microfilm, transcribe the obituary/death notice in full, include a note that the JKTS book entry is in error, and post the fully transcribed obituary/death notice to the Williamson County genweb page (or whatever county is appropriate) and/or to the genweb archives. Libraries with the microfilm are the main Williamson County Library in Franklin, the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville, possibly the Memphis-Shelby County library, and the Jackson-Madison County Library. David
Two possible errors have been pointed out in one 1848 entry from the Western Weekly Review. One is that the death years is listed as 1846, which may be an OCR error. The other error may involve a misreading, misrecording, or typo. These are common types of errors and the WWR files will contain many. That is why you you will always need to print your own copies of the original death notices from the Western Weekly Review microfilm. The only original work I do is cemetery markers, and what applies to them applies to county records, newspapers, and any other document. The recorder/abstractor can read it wrong, write it down wrong, be unable to read his own handwriting when he goes to type it, and can make typos. On top of this, if the typed document is scanned, then there is a chance for OCR errors. Finally, you can record, type, and process everything correctly without error but (especially with cemetery markers) the information can be wrong to start with. Any researcher should CHECK EVERYTHING. These abstracts are an index to the WWR, not a substitute for it. I should have 1851 online by Saturday night. David
