    1. I need help!
    2. OK guys - I need help sorting out the GRAY, OWEN, STOCKETT and SAPPINGTON line of early Williamson County. The STOCKETT's only seem to have used three names in each generation - the GRAY's all used the same given names and the two Everett OWEN's are confusing! Does ANYONE have any light whatsoever to shed on these lines? Thanks! Colleen Taylor

    3. Hi Colleen, I have been researching Stocketts of Willianson county. I am expecially interested in Lucy Stockett, the daughter of Stephen Stockett and Nancy Armstrong. I have her birth as 1822, and on 9 Oct 1843, she married in Williamson county, Alexander Calvin Sexton, and they became my husband Edwin Dozier Sexton's great grandparents. I have been very fortunate in finding Lucy's parents, and grandparents. However I have been unable to establish who were the parents of Alexander, and if there were any siblings. I know your interest is Stocketts, but since you have done such extensive research, I can't help but ask if you by any chance ran accross these two. There were 11 children, 9 of which were born in Williamson county, and 2 in Davidson. Alexander and Lucy seems to have lived their entire lifetime there, mostly in Williamson county. They were there in census 1850, 1860, and 1870. !870 was the last census in which Alexander appeared, but Lucy and youngest daughter Mary were in the 1880 census, in son Stephen's household. I would really appreciate any help or advise you have to offer. I doubt that anything I that would help you, you seem to be way beyond me. However anything I have you are welcome to. 3. Tony, In your Payne line, do you have any records of a Martha Payne(s) married to a Lewis Taylor Jones? Marriage would have been in the 1794 timeframe, or before. Probably in VA. Lewis Taylor Jones moved to TN Williamson Cty area about 1817. Would appreciate any information on this individual. Susanna has since married Robert HULME. Robert HULME and Susanna were appointed administrators in May 1803 Robert HULME is wasting and destroying the said estate. Loose Records 1829-1839 From Williamson County Loose Records, 1829-1839: James SHELBURN et al vs. Susan BROWN James SHELBURN and wife, Susan, Theophilus L. GENTRY and wife Rebecca G., Williamson JORDAN and wife Ann B., all of Williamson County, Tennessee. Joseph H. STOCKETT left a will dated 27 July 1819. He left to Susan STOCKETT, now Susan BROWN, and Col. Nicholas T. PERKINS, William EDMINSTON for the use of the children of his departed sister, Elizabeth, the wife of Doctor Thomas SAPPINGTON: Susan, Rebecca, Ann and Thomas. Susan STOCKETT has married Aaron BROWN and he is long since dead. Susan L. SAPPINGTON has married James SHELBURN. Rebecca B. SAPPINGTON has married Theopolis GENTRY. Ann SAPPINGTON has married Williamson JORDAN. In a deposition, Aaron V. BROWN of Giles County, Tennessee states, "at the time his father, Aaron BROWN married Susan STOCKETT, Susan and Rebecca were at the Female Academy in Nashville at school and at the expiration of that term lived with my father as members of the family. He saw in his brother William's handwriting in the account book for their board. Miss Ann Sappington was living with Susan STOCKETT at the time of her marriage and came with her to Giles County and lived here about two years." Deposition of Thomas SAPPINGTON, aged 49 years - 28 September 1832 - Mrs. BROWN told me and the mother of my children that she intended in case of her outliving T. W. STOCKETT to divide her property equally between my children and some of her blood connections. While my wife was living Mrs. BROWN solicited and obtained permission to take Ann, an infant, and raise and educate her. She remained with her for years after my wife's death until I determined to remove her. At other person's judgment and the dying request of my wife, I was induced to offer her the raising of my children. She refused as to the three oldest but kept Ann. After the death of my wife (about one year before the death of her father, T. W. STOCKETT) I put the three eldest children (Susan, Rebecca and Thomas) to board with Mr. Henry BROWN under the tutorship of Mr. B. McCONNICO. Mrs. BROWN took them from the school without my permission alleging they were too young to board and wished for them to remain with her. On my way to Missouri, on a traveling tour for my health, I called on Mrs. BROWN, then Mrs. STOCKETT. Joseph H. STOCKETT was alive at the time and was present. On my return from Missouri about 15 or 16 months later, J. H. STOCKETT had died. I still being very much indisposed, set to Mrs. BROWN to send the children to my brother, R. B. SAPPINGTON. She refused saying Susan and Rebecca were at the Female Academy in Nashville and that I could see them there or at her house. After she married Mr. BROWN, I went to their house to see if she wanted the children to remain with her. She said her home was to be their home until death or their marriage. Shortly afterwards, I took Thomas with me and in about two years, I took them all. Deposition of John MCCUTCHIN, aged 79 years (same date) Deposition of Catherine MCCUTCHIN, aged 61 years (same date) Deposition of William Edminston, Aged 40 years.

    2. Janet just a note of Interest in regards to the Lawson Families of Hawkins County Tn. and the inter connecting families of Jonas Lawson b abt 1758 in Henry County Virginia and one James Lawson abt 1734 died abt 1760 in What becomes Patrick Co. Va. We know that your Family ties into our Hatcher- Burton families of Humphrey's Co. Tn, Williamson Co. Tn and into Dickson Co. In checking the research of The Lawson family I came upon a very interesting marriage into another one of my Surname ties:: :It appears the family mentioned above is also tied into My Minor- Doodes- Montague-Plantagent Lines and ties more Hatcher- Burton-Elam-Farmers-Trent's, Harris & Osborne Families together in Early 1650 era of Virginia. The following needs to be independent verification so I was wondering what you have and others in the group might be able to confirm . I note we also Have Josias Payne son Robert Payne Jr married to Ann Burton in the Burton Families Also of Note is ALice Margaret Payne b. abt 1530 is married to William Crowle Chiles whose son Walter Chiles d. 1653 in Jamestown, his relatives Rowland Chiles ends up Living in 1782 by William Johnson of Buffalo Creek,( Land now in Campbell Co) who Hudson Johnson was living with in Henry Co. Va Titahable in 1780. Who in 1782 is in Hawkins Co. Tn and died 1828 on Bartons Creek in 1828 Dickson Co. Tn. Also of Note: Annie Payne married Gideon Johnson Pillow the father of General Gideon Johnson Pillow of Williamson Co. Tn who also connects back to the Early Johnson research of relatives of Edward Johnston Rev. of Henrico Co. Va. ( Lines of Cousin Mary Holland researcher) Also of Note is Judith Paine or Payne married to James Burton abt 1700 of Henrico Co. Va. connects back to our Hatcher Lines off William Hatcher b. 1613 It seems one of my Great Aunts Mary Maria Doodes married to Peter Montague 3rd. has a daughter Mary Montague abt 1664-1665 of Middlesex Co. Va who married one Thomas Payne Sr. son of Ralph Payne they married Oct 24 1682 Christ Church Middlesex Co. Va. Thomas Payne's Relative ( ?) Robert Payne married one Elizabeth Lawson b abt 1652 in Lancaster Co. Va. died in Old Rappahannock Co. Va now Essex Co. Va. She is the Daughter of Epaphrodius Lawson and Elizabeth Madestard. Now what is of interest is she also married William Devereaux Gilliam b abt 1631, who was her first Husband. Note: Mary Maria Doodes is the daughter of Maindert or Mairedort Minor and Mary Gureat Johnson b. abt 1618 in Holland died by Jan 6 1678 in Middlesex Co. Va. on Montague Island Note: Research of Cousin Bonnie Flythe and of Researcher Euell Johnson ( Cousin of Plantagent Lines) has a Common Gilliam Connection, does this Gilliam Connect to your research This Mary Maria Doodes marriage makes the Following Lines also inter connected as Cousin's: Montague, Families of George Washington, Pace, Cox-Cocke, Minor, Williamson ,Mayo, Matlock, Valentine, Hardy, Plantagent, Farrar, Knowles, Col. 2. Sandra Shelly
    3. Could someone look up a Marriage that took place before 1820 between John Winstead and ? Jones. (possibly Polly or Patsy). Could someone lookup the area where John Winstead lived in 1810-20. He should be living near a Jarvis Jones in 1810 and in 1820 near Vincent Cartwrights descendents, near the Edneys, who also are thought to be related. Vincent Cartwright was Married to Thone Koen , Vincent died in 1814 and Thone remarried to Ed Daniel. Though Thone was sold property by Jarvis Jones, next to John Winstead, I don't know if she moved there or if Ed and Thone Koen Cartwright Daniel and family lived elsewhere.. These families should be in Williamson Co.,.though thay had relatives in the Pasquotank area of Davidson County.. Is anyone researching the Jones, Jackson,Koen or Davis family from Pasquotank N.Carolina?? If so please write me as these are all my lines also. Sandy

    3. This John Rice owned the "Chickasaw Bluffs" upon which the City of Memphis is now situated. He was killed by Indians along the Red River in present-day Clarksville, TN in January 1792.
