    3. Hi Ross, Some of my families were also from the Leiper's Fork/Hillsboro area.....MEADOWS and BURNS. Are you connected to these lines? Also, were your OAKLEY's in Hickman Co before coming to Williamson? I descend from Eliza P. OAKLEY who married David F. ELKINS. Any relation? Later, Darlene Anderson

    3. Hi Jack I can't answer your specific question, but I did want to ask you if your BURNETTS are from Williamson County...on Carter's Creek? If so that is my family, too. I don't think the spelling makes a bit of difference. Some even spell it Burnit. My first BURNETT into Williamson and Rutherford Counties from Dinwiddie Co Va was TALIAFERRO BURNETT (1767-1822) who m. MARY BAUGH their son JOSEPH BOLLING BURNETT (1800-1848) m. ANNA BEASLEY their son CAPT. WILLIAM WILTSHIRE (BUCK) BURNETT,CSA (1829-1873) m. MARGARET J. ROUNDTREE their son JOSEPH LEE BURNETT m. FANNIE ELIZABETH JORDAN (my grandparents) thier son CHARLES ARCHER BURNETT m. CAROLINE BEASLEY NORTON of Montgomery, Al I am their daughter: CAROLINE BURNETT m. BOYCE WAYNE COOK in Birmingham Al in 1961. Any connection with yours? I have met only one person in my entire life who was related on the Burnett side. Guesss they all stayed in Tennessee. My father's first cousin, WALTER BURNETT of Knoxville was the one I have met. I think he had a son named BILL but I have never heard from him. 3. Hi Jennie, Tax Record -- I can give you a general view of poll taxes, but if someone on the list can be more specfic about this we both might learn something new. Anyway, taxes can be accessed on "real property" or "personal property tax" or a combination of the two. It sounds like the sons were taxed on "personal property" they owned. The sons would not have been included in the "real property" tax with their father if they owned land themselves......I don't think. Anyone else have any suggestions on this? Will Record -- If you have the will book number and page number write to the Williamson County Archives giving the specifics for what you are wanting and they will search and copy the record for you. There is a charge. If you need the the Archives address, etc., let me know and I'll email to you. You might want to call first just to make sure they have the information on microfilm you are wanting. If they do not have it the next best place would be the State Archives in Nashville. Information about their searches should be on their website. Hope this helps! Darlene Anderson

    3. Hi Larry, I checked the 1840, 50 and 60 census for Wmson Co and there are no SWISHER'S listed. Evidently the SWISHER'S must have moved on because there were 5 of them that married in Wmson Co between 1815 and 1830. I also checked for a SCOTT Bible in the Williamson Co Bible Records, Vol. 1 and 2 and found SCOTT'S listed but no actual Bible exclusively for the SCOTT family. This doesn't give you much in the way of a lead for your Bible search, but hope this helps some. Darlene Anderson

    3. Denise-- Thanks for going to the trouble of looking up BEST marriages. I have a Joseph who did come to IL through TN. It could well be him in both marriages, simply because he has a sort of record in the family. He married at least three documented times in Illinois. (Hmmm. . .makes me wonder about my family!). I'll see if I can find any further documentation that will help. Again, thanks. Myra Best Christeck Wolfpup212 wrote: > > I found two marriage records for Joseph BEST. 3. Darlene: I am searching for any decendants of a Henry Swisher who lived in Williamson County during the 1830s. According to the Williamson County Will Records of James B. Scott, a Henry Swisher bought the family Bible of the James B. Scott family at auction during the settlement of the Scott estate. If anyone has any idea where I might find a Swisher decendant to see if the Bible is still in existence, please let me know. I would like to read it to see if there is any genealogical information that may help me in finding my ancestors. I know this is a very long, long shot, but I thought I'd give it a go anyway. Thanks. 1. [TNWILLIA-L] REED/REID Family
    2. We are looking for information on the REED/REID family of JOHN and LAVINIA WILLIAMS REED of Rowan and Orange Counties, NC that migrated to Williamson Co., TN about 1800. They had 13 children. Their daughter HANNAH REED married her cousin (first?, second?) CALEB REED (ca. 1790-1836). They had nine children: 1) Unknown son (possibly Robert A,) 2) Leander James 3) Jerome Alexander Napolean Bonaparte 4) Pauline 5) Minerva 6) Eugenia Celestine 7) Martitia L.A.L.N. 8) Malinda 9) unknown daughter. Caleb and his family lived at Caney Springs, Marshall Co., TN. After his death the family moved to Flat Creek, Marshall Co., TN. We are looking for the ancestors of JOHN and LAVINIA as well as CALEB. We also need information on a LEANDER REED (1740-50 d. after 1830) who lived in Muary Co.,TN. I believe we are a part of the greater REED/REID exodus from York and Lancaster Counties, PA about 1752-1755. I further believe we are linked to the widely travelled HUGH REED of Rowan Co., NC, Ogelthorpe Co., GA, and Logan Co., KY. Any help is greatly appreciated. We are trying to sort this out for a "gathering" in the year 2000. Please circulate widely. Thank you. Brian C. 3. Thanks Darlene , I have that info although the name is spelled without the u . My marriage date is 1832 . This has been a hard family to find much info on . A question , I have some of the sons and the father in the 1866 tax book as a poll tax . The father , John Allen is taxed $9.00 for 201 acres , and 4 of the sons are taxed $2.00 . Do you think the sons were taxed on land or something else ? One more question , I would like to get a copy of the will record , concering their death and estate . I have John Allen died before Dec . 1885 , and his wife before July 1886 . I don't know what to ask for . thanks for any help , Jennie Falkenburry Riggs

    1. [TNWILLIA-L] A Reminder
    2. Darburns
    3. Hi Folks, Just a little reminder.......if your ancestors resided, came through or are connected to another Williamson County family please feel free to send your query to TNWILLIA-L. Your query should have a STATED Williamson County connection or at the very least a reference to a family in Williamson County. Just a little reminder.......PLEASE....when sending messages to any Rootsweb mailing list only cross-send to no more than 5 lists. This is the standard that Rootsweb had set for their system. The reason is, for example.....Williamson County has 109 + people on our list. When we send a message to the list all 109 + people receive ONE message. If you send 5 different lists a message and each of those lists have 100 people that's 500 people receiving one message. This creates havoc with the servers on Rootsweb. We've had a great response to people's inquiries in the last few days. Let's keep up the communication! Darlene Anderson

    1. Re: [TNWILLIA-L] Dowdy, Graham
    2. Michelle Roberts
    3. To be honest, I don't know what type of connections they have. I know they didn't go back to NC and the family of Nicholas ended up meeting him in VA. My g-grandfather was born in March in Boone NC so it sounds like he was born enroute to VA. From VA, I heard my g-grandfather, Richard and probably his brother Aaron went to TN and worked for a man named Carr. They took some horses to Greene County for him and ended up staying. I don't know what part of Tennessee they went to. I have had a tough time finding this family. Plus they were moving around a lot. With the 1890 census destroyed, I also loose them from 1880 to 1890. I found Aaron on a personal property tax list of 1890 in Greene so I am assuming they were there then. I think Gaston stayed in VA and I don't know what happened to the rest. I ordered Nick's and John Dowdy's confed papers, but haven't heard anything yet. I also think the names of the kids are unusual - Gaston, Aaron, Armenia, Lawrence. I did find a Lawrence Dowdy who was in the NC Troops (ordered his papers, too). I am looking for McKee's, Gott's, and Elrod's in Tennessee also. I am also trying to find the Indians (Cherokee). I know it came from my mom's dad's side (and this is the Dowdy, McKee, etc), but haven't found them yet. I sent an email to the person you suggested so between that and those papers (if they ever come) maybe I will know more. I did find a birth record of a Nicholas Dowdy born in about 1827 in TN, but he died in about 1845. -----Original Message----- From: Wjusthill <Wjusthill@aol.com> To: TNWILLIA-L@rootsweb.com <TNWILLIA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, April 26, 1998 10:20 AM Subject: Re: [TNWILLIA-L] Dowdy, Graham >Hi, Michelle.
