For those of you who may not know, Ansearchin' News, a publication of the Tennessee Genealogical Society has published several resources on White County, TN.( and other counties as well) I am including the list of those articles on White County in the event that some of you would want to look at any of them in your local library if they happen to have the copies. Many large genealogical libraries do have copies. Storekeeper's Journal 1845-1858 (Jesse Lincoln, Daniel Clark), Vol. 13 (1966) 850 unclaimed letters at postoffice 1824-1841, Vol. 14 (1967) Old Roberts, Philadelphia, Mt. Pisgah, and Mt. Gilead cemeteries, Vol. 16 (1969) 1811 tax list (600+ names), 1840 census index, military pensioners, 1850 mortality schedule, Vol. 18 (1971) Families in 1860 census, Vol. 28 (1981) Families in 1860 census (concluded), Vol. 29 (1982) 1807 petition, Vol. 33 (1986) Jones Cemetery, Vol. 35 (1988) 1813 petition to appoint veterans to train militia (60 names), Vol. 36 (1989) 1813 petitions (1) opposing toll gate (148 names), (2) authorizing upkeep of turnpike (24 names), (3) supporting recompense for Col. George Sanders (96 names), Vol. 37 (1990) Items from the Sparta Review of early 1820's, land sold for unpaid 1814 U. S. direct tax (9 names), Vol. 43 (1996) Merchants Licenses 1845-46, Vol. 45 (1998) I have found the annotation of the 1860 White Co. Census by Harold Wallace, now deceased, in Vol. 28 and 29 to be very helpful. You may also purchase these issues from the Tennessee Genealogical Society. This link will take you directly to the page containing the ordering info. I have no financial interest in the group, just sharing a resource that has been helpful to me.
