I am still searching for any record or reference to the birth of my grandfather, John Lee DAVIS. He was allegedly born between 1885-1888, somewhere in either Kentucky or Tennessee -- family notes seem to conflict with each other. His parents were Ruben (other possible spellings, such as Reuben, Rubin, Reubin, etc.) DAVIS and Liley KIRBY/KERBY. I believe Ruben DAVIS came from White County, TN (not confirmed) and Liley KIRBY was born in Warren County, TN. It is possible that my grandfather, John Lee DAVIS, was born in those areas but not definite. I've found traces of that family and its members in various places of Tennessee and Kentucky. Between 1900-1910 Ruben and Liley DAVIS moved to Bardwell (Carlisle Co), KY. They had at least one child there: Edna Irene DAVIS, born in 1913. Ruben and Liley DAVIS had several other children that I've been able to get names for so far (from a single census record): Henry DAVIS, born about 1890, TN Nettie DAVIS, born about 1892, TN Elmore DAVIS, born about 1898, TN I found these childrens' names on a 1900 census for TN, showing the family in White County at that time. Edna Irene DAVIS' birth cert. shows that the mother had 11 children, 7 of whom were living at that time. I guess I have some more children to "find"....<sigh> BTW, has anyone ever heard of a Middleton, TN, or Middleton, KY? Any clues on where it's located (county, general area of the state)? One or two of the references I've seen list "Middleton" as a birthplace for John Lee DAVIS. As I said, the notes from family members (all now deceased) conflict, so I'm trying to dig out the information if any records exist. This family is a huge "brick wall" for me -- finding records and just the few traces that I have has been difficult. If anyone has any information on this family in these areas please contact me.
