    3. Robie and all This from "History of White County" by Monroe Seals, pub 1935: page 65 _ The Rhea House was built for the Sparta branch of the old State Bank. page 112- James Whitcomb Riley spent a month once a the Rhea House on his vacation, during which time he wrote some of his most famous poems. Opie Reed stayed at the Rhea House in Sparta while he was writing the two novels "The Waters of Caney Fork" and "The Jucklins." page 138- Sparta has two excellent hotels and some inns and private boarding houses. The Rhea House was originally build for a branch of the State Bank. During the many years the Rhea House has run as a hotel it has enjoyed a fine patronage of the traveling public and has been through all the years a kind of family hotel as well, many of the business and professional men and women of Sparta making their homes there. A number of famous men and women from the outside have spent a while at the Rhea House. James Whitcomb Riley once spent a part of the summer there, and while there wrote some of his best known poems, among them being, so it is said, "The Old Swimming Hole" and "An Old Sweetheart of Mine." Opie Reed spent a summer at the Rhea House once and while here wrote probably his most famous novel, "The Jucklins." It is said also that he gathered the material for "The Waters of Caney Fork" while here. At present it is owned by Mrs Stanton Dibrell, and the managers are her son and daughter, Mr and Mrs S. S. Dibrell, Jr. page 149- Sparta is well supplied with restaurants and eating houses. The most popular of these being the Lee Hotel, B. & B. Restaurant and the Rhea House. 1. [TNWHITE-L] Question
    2. Is anyone out there familiar with Simon William Norris, born 1776 in Ashe County, NC? I have as his wife one Theresa Avery born 1782 NC. Is anyone familiar with this couple, or this line? I have that they left NC for TN about 1815, settling in White County. Other researchers have as Simon's wife, or wives, Eunice Shinn, and Hanna Case. There is a completely different set of children in each case. For instance, this is what I have for Simon William and Theresa Avery Norris: David, born 1800 York District SC James 1803 Ashe County NC Avery Simon born 1806 also Ashe Co. NC Theresa born 1809 Ananias born 1813 Amy born 1815 William born 1816 White County, TN John Francis born 1818 White County, TN I'm not completely sure of the list of children for Simon William and Eunice and Hanna; I think this is close: John 1806 NC Samuel 1808 Levi 1812 Joel 1818 David 1823 Rebecca 1813 Anna 1810 Myra 1816 Jonathan 1820 (I wonder if John and Jonathan are the same person; I have each of them married to Rachel Sands at one time or another. She was born 1802 NC. I like the list of children's names for Simon William and Theresa becasue they seem to reflect the parents names, and they just seem to fit. What do some of you think? Also, could there be a Simon William and a William S. Norris of same family? I have seen it listed that way once, with the wives of William S. being Eunice Shinn and Hanna Case. William S. being born 4 Feb 1772 Wilkes, NC. Sure would like some help here, Sue

    1. [TNWHITE-L] Roll Call and a Question
    2. NORRIS I have a specific question for you Norris researchers; I hope you can help with it. Alexander Davis in his book, Norris of Maryland and Virginia, has listed the spouse of John Norris, who died 1740, son of Edward, son of Thomas born 1609, as Elizabeth Parsons; and his second wife as Mary Newman. Myers has listed the spouse of this same John as Elizabeth Capell, daughter of Benjamin Capell. Does anybody know the straight of this matter? If anyone out there knows for sure about this, then I have another question to ask of you. Sue
