This article was mentioned to me by another researcher. Has anyone a copy of this article that they would email me? It is supposed to have some reference to a Micajah or Cager Scott and Tilman Davis. It's titled " LORDS OF THE NIGHT" Legend of Scott's Gulf it was taken from a1990 issue of Plain Talk Magazine and the article was written by Kenneth Brogden,

I'm tying to find a Sarah/Sally Savage who signed some affadavits in White County ca. 1853. I do not find her on the 1850 White County, census. I believe she is probably the widow of Kendall Savage. Kendall Savage served in the War of 1812 in a unit from Overton County. Kendall and Sarah are from Surry Co. NC. There are some guardian records for Kendall, so I beleive he died. a Sally Savage is listed in the 1820 White County census with 5 children; Sarah Savage is listed in the 1830 census. Perhaps a son is listed as head of the household by 1840 and 1850. Nancy _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Hello list, Sunday, I stopped at the France Cem. on the way back up Hwy 84 between Sparta and Monterey. I noticed 4 Charmichael men buried side by side and all were in the Confederate Army--and died there. They were one line up above were Champ Ferguson was buried. 1sg Sgt. Solomon Carmichael (b. Apr. 6, 1828 d. Nov. 20, 1861), I know, was in Abraham Ford's Co. K, 25th TN Inf. as was Pvt.Thomas Carmichael buried right beside him. Thomas was born Jan. 31, 1822 and died Dec. 31, 1861. Other's buried in the line were Pvt. Hance Carmichael (b. Oct. 23, 1823 d. June 25 1863) a member of Co. H, 28th TN Inf; and William L Carmichael, Co. H Dibrells 8th TN Cav. Does anyone know anything about these men? Were they brothers? Who were their parents? Take care, Dale Welch 303 Tayes Ave. Monterey, TN 38574 dawelch@usit.net
Residents had to pay property taxes. Many of the early property tax roll--including those for White County, TN--were typed by WPA workers prior to WWII. We copied (via pencil and paper) tax records from such a book in East Tennessee Historical Center--McClung Historicl Collection, Knoxville, TN. "Transcriptions of the County Archives of TN #93, White County (Sparta) Tax Book 1811-1815" prepared by the TN Historical Records Survey -- WPA April, 1940, The TN Historical Records Survey." The data in the books had been typed on onion skin paper with carbon paper and thence was considered too delicate for photocopying. For defense purposes all adult males had to register whenever they moved into a new county. The tax lists are by militia companies, i.e. "Capt. Isaac Privet's Company of Militia for the year of 1811.' Is there anyone who has information or could find info on Madison Frank Williams--mid 1800's in White Co. He married Louisa Downie McGee and their first son was James Thomas Williams, who was born in White Co. and died there in the early 1900's. Madison took the family to Fannin Co., Tx where other children were born 1852-1859; he supposedly died there and she returned in 1860 to Sparta, White Co., living there until her death c.1905. This group of Williams was tied to the Cherry Creek Community and are buried in the Upper Cherry Creek cemetery. The land for the church and cemetery were deeded to the Cumberland Presbyterian congregation by Louisa's father A. McGee and Louisa in the 1840's. Any information on Madison Frank and his ancestors would be appreciated. Thanks, Sammye Mantooth, samrick@door.net
What kin is John H. Anderson to Robert G. Anderson? Do you know where they came from originally yet? Do you know of any relationship to the Halterman families? In White Co., early minute records 18 May 1810, John H. Anderson took the oath of constable, with William Grimes, John Haltiman(Halterman), and Robert G. Anderson his securities. Anyone researching the Lewis family. There is some information regarding that family in Seal's "History of White County". It begins with the brothers hiring an Indian guide to explore the area in 1798.
