    3. Thank you for posting this for the Franks families. I had wondered, because of a trust deed, if there were any connections of Jesse Franks (born 1801) to my Halterman/Halteman family for some time. With this I can see the only connection would be a kinship through the Moore and Holder families. Do you know anything of the reason for Jesse Franks and Melverd Halterman to have had possibly, a business adventure together? 1. [TNWHITE] Turners from White County
    2. I'm at a brick wall and am soliciting help from members of the list. My great great grandmother is Eliza Jane Turner, born 25 September 1821 in Tennessee. She married John David Walker in Sparta, White County on 10 Jan 1839 and died on 29 Sep 1849 also in Sparta, White Co. Oral family history indicates her parents may be Lewis and Mary Turner and that the Turners came from North Carolina. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. John Perkins from rainy California.

    2. Willie D. Smith
    3. Hi, I am looking for information pertaining to Daniel Rice who paid taxes in Hawkins County 1809-1812. Was this man a son or grandson of Henry Rice, the Gristmiller? I am wondering if perhaps he is the same Daniel Rice shown on tax lists of White County, TN on Cane Creek about 1818. There seems to have been a Daniel Rice who purchased land in old Sumner or Wilson County at about the same time from one of the Buchanans. Hopefully, someone has data pertaining to this Daniel Rice. 3. Although Champ Ferguson was not a Monroe Countain, he was born in nearby Albany, KY., and is a son of the Cumberlands. Here's more about our regional history, with a URL from Randy Jobe: Douglas Patton Hale wrote: "Sergeant Alvin York was from Pall Mall, Fentress Co. the county seat is Jamestown (Jimtown) to the locals. . .Fentress Co. was a big Union strong hold during the Civil War and Overton Co. was strongly Rebel. If you are interested in the Civil War with a local flavor you might want to read "Champ Ferguson - Confederate Guerrilla" . . . . Champ was actually from Clinton Co. (Albany) Ky. He engaged in a bloody feud with Tinker Dave Beatty from Fentress Co. Tenn. Champ moved to White Co. (Sparta) Tenn. and continued his war with the Union. 1. [TNWHITE] My genealogy website has been moved slightly
    2. Willie D. Smith
    3. Hi all! Just heard from my isp. My website has been moved to this url: http://www.ficom.net/members/willsmith/ All the links seem to work just fine but one, and that is to my civil war paintings (from my online gallery page), which is now at: http://www.ficom.net/members/willsmith/civilwar.html Apparently they have had some difficulties which seem to be ironed out pretty much now. They've had tremendous trouble with BellSouth's equipment and have been having to fix stuff like every other week! Seems to be working now fine, and all I'll have to do is to change the html code for my link to the civil war painting page. Thanks Will Smith +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Humorous thought for the month: "If your grandparents never had children, chances are neither shall you!"

    3. I am curious as to what Confederate and Union armies would have recruited in the area of DeKalb, Putnam,White County, TN , etc...other than the Federal 1st TN Mounted Infantry and Colms' 1st TN Infantry Battalion, CSA. I would like to do online rosters for those units not already available online. Also, I have updated my online gallery page and have added a couple of images of my Civil War paintings. Please be patient while these images load, as they are rather large. I bought a HP scanner and a new HP deskjet 612C and have been having a lot of fun with them adding pictures to my genealogy files of late! 1. [TNWHITE] DAVIS, Ruben/Reuben & Liley Ann; TN>KY
    2. J. Mathew
    3. I'm searching for information about my DAVIS line, specifically Ruben/Reuben DAVIS and his wife, Liley Ann [KIRBY/KERBY]. Liley Ann KIRBY/KERBY was apparently born around Aug, 1870, in Warren Co, TN. Ruben/Reuben (various spellings) DAVIS was apparently born around June, 1865, in White County, TN. They apparently resided in White County, TN for a period of time, later moving to Bardwell (Carlisle Co), KY. I say "apparently" because at this time I only have one census and a child's birth certificate to give me these approximates. They had several children, and I only know about five of them (dates according to information on 1900 census and one birth cert.): John Lee DAVIS, b. Oct 1886 TN Henry DAVIS, b. Feb 1890 TN Nettie DAVIS, b. June 1892 TN Elmore DAVIS, b. Dec 1898 TN Edna Irene DAVIS, b. Sep 19, 1913 Bardwell, KY They show up on the 1900 census in White County, TN, but moved to Bardwell, KY, sometime before 1913 when their daughter, Edna Irene, was born. John Lee DAVIS was my grandfather. He died in the 1920's at a rather young age of pneumonia. His death took place in Illinois, and he is allegedly buried in Granite City, IL. According to Edna Irene DAVIS' birth certificate, there were eleven children born to the couple but only 7 living at the time of Edna's birth. Obviously there are other children that I haven't "discovered" in this family yet! There are some family "rumors" that there is Indian blood somewhere in the line, perhaps on both sides (DAVIS and KIRBY/KERBY). There has never been any proof that I know of to confirm this, but I "throw it out" in case someone on the list may have some clues on connections to this family line. I have no other information about this family -- no records on actual births, deaths, marriages, etc. I was lucky to find Edna Irene's birth certificate in Bardwell, KY, from a hunch based on a single photograph with some obscure info on the back. If anyone has information about this family, or thinks they have a connection, please contact me. I have had great difficulty locating any records on this family, so any leads would certainly be welcome! Joan -- Email: joanm@bigfoot.com

    1. [TNWHITE] TN Union Veteran Pension Applications
    2. Mitzi Freeman
    3. Hello Everyone, At the "Tennessee and the Civil War" Project, there is a new database online for indexing UNION pension application numbers. Right now, we have roughly 1000 pension application numbers. Many from the 1st TN Infantry and the 4th TN Cavalry Company F. You might want to check out the database to see if you can find one of your Union veterans listed. If you have received a Union Veteran Pension application, please consider entering the information into the database. It will only take a second. A database is only as good as the contribution it receives. The link to the database is located under the "What's New" section of the main page at http://www.tngenweb.org/civilwar/ Thanks, Mitzi
