    3. Our Williams family left White Co. for a time and moved to Texas. Since they were living with the Caruth family, I'm wondering if the Caruth's also came from Sparta? Does anyone have any information on the Caruth family listed below in the 1860 Fannin Co. Census??? Our Williams family was evidently living with them shortly before the death of Madison Frank Williams in December of 1860. What connection was there between these two families??? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1860 Fannin Co., Tx, census: #257 lst column--dwelling # visited (780) 2nd column--family # visited (791) and here's the clincher: R. A. Caruth, 26, M Caruth, 19, Alonzo, 1 THEN UNDER THEM (same dwelling and family) MF Williams, 37, m farmer, Tenn; L D, 33, Tn, James T, 14, Tn, Wm D 12, Tn, A. A. (?) 7, WYB, 4, Mary E, 1/2, Tx. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Any help on this puzzler would be appreciated!!! 2. W K 'Andy' Anderson
    3. My aunts of Dallas TX spent 44 years and tens of thousands of dollars researching our William Preston Anderson without one clue as to who his parents were, or who his brothers or sisters were. The aunt that passed away was determined to see that we were connected to the William Preston Anderson family from Va and Nashville that I think she would not consider any data that suggested otherwise. We have just about everything on the Va Anderson group and the similarities are astounding, but we cannot fit our guy in. This William Preston first married Nancy Bell then second Margaret Lapsley Adair. One of his children was James Patton Anderson best known for his service in the CSA. I think we are related somehow to the Robert G Anderson family. People back then tended to move, live, and marry within the same group. Almost without exception, everyone that our WPA knew came from or thru White Co, TN. (Hickory Valley). Our William Preston first showed up in 1848 when he married Rutha Moore at the home of her parents, Thomas Moore and Sarah Doyle Moore, Bossier Parish, La. The witnesses to his marriage were R G Anderson, Jr, Elijah P Lewis, Jr and some man named Jacob M Scoggins. Our William Preston claimed to be have been born in 1824. Thomas Moore, Elijah P Lewis and our William Preston had plantations in Cotton Valley (north Bossier Parish) just a few miles apart. Our WP raised race horses, he was not a farmer which was a little unusual back then. James Anderson b 18 Aug 1764 in Md, d after 1834 in Bedford Co. He stated he lived in Sullivan Co, TN, then White Co, Tn then to Bedford Co., Tn. We do not know as yet how many other children he had besides Robert G Anderson Sr. We do know that RG Sr of White Co, Tn went to Madison Co, Al, then to Madison Co, Ms then to Nacogdoches TX were he died in 1841. Robert G Sr b 1782 d 1841 first married Rebecca Fry daughter of James Frye and Nancy Speers. They had James Gilmore Anderson Nancy Jane Anderson William P Anderson (not the one we are looking for) Robert G Anderson Jr Sallie Anderson After Rebecca died, he married Judith Sherrill Lewis daughter of Lewis Sherrill and Mary Mason. Judith was the widow of Elijah P Lewis Sr. Judith and Elijah had Mary Polly Malinda Lewis and Elijah P Lewis, Jr. (EPL Jr ended up marrying the sister of Rutha Moore our WPs wife, Malissa Moore in Bossier Parish). We do not know if Robert G and Judith Sherrill had any children, I wish I knew. James Gilmore Anderson - m Hannah McAdams 15 Sep 1823 Nancy Jane Anderson - m John Penn 8 Jun 1825 William P Anderson - m Ann D Ward 31 May 1836 Madison Co, Ms Robert G Anderson, Jr - m Judith Ann Ligon 20 Jun 1833 Sallie Anderson - Nothing, but b 1 Jan 1813 White Co, Tn I have been hoping against hope that we could prove that Robert G Anderson Sr and Judith Sherrill Lewis had children after their marriage and one of them would be our WPA. They were both in the late thirties and children would certainly at least be probable. I know this is a very long message, but I would greatly appreciate any nudge in the right direction. Best regards and Happy Hunting, William Kent Anderson PointBlank, TX

    3. I just joined the White Co. list. This is the first message received and it has to be MY family. My family left in the early to mid 1800s and went to Nodaway Co. MO, but what a thrill to see this Pistole appear in my very first message. Thanks, jsm Mitzi P. 1. [TNWHITE-L] Jane Unknown LEWIS b.1805-1810
    2. I am attempting to connect E. Jane C. LEWIS with the correct Lewis line. Does anyone know who her husband may have been? She appears in the 1850 Census of White County, TN in District VI, Family 759: E. Jane LEWIS 43 TN Francis (m) 14 TN Martha 13 TN James K. P. 11 TN Elizabeth 5 TN The only LEWIS in the 1840 Census of White County that appears to have a wife in the 30-40 age category and a male and female under 5 is Hiram LEWIS, son of William Lewis (born bef. 1775 d.1838). William's wife name was Sarah, he left a Will and named sons Benjamin, Hiram, Russell and daughters Polly Rigsby, Betsy Hutchings and Keziah Rigsby as well as a grandson James W. Julian. In the 1860 White Co., TN census E. Jane Lewis is living in the household of her son Francis Lewis # 818-803: Francis "Frank" LEWIS 25 TN Farmer Sarah 25 TN Solomon 1/12 TN Jane 55 TN Sarah 15 TN In 1870 Frank and Sarah also had Mary 7, James K. P. 3. In the 870 Census mother Jane was living in the 1870 household of her son James K.P. Lewis: James K. P. LEWIS 29 Catherine 26 (COPE) Susan 10 Douglas 8 Jane C. 65 James K. P. LEWIS married Catherine COPE on Nov 16, 1858 in White County. I would appreciate any information regarding this family. I am particularly trying to line Jane with a LEWIS husband. 3. Perhaps the best way to get this information on the White county home page would be to have several people work on transcribing the information onto a program that could be put onto the home page. I know that I would be more than willing to do whatever I would need to do to make sure that this information is not lost. Maybe Mr. Keathly could co-ordinate it by telling us what program to use and Mrs. Qualls could co-ordinate it by sending the information to volunteers who would type the information to be sent back on floppy discs. 3. This is in answer to Ann Proctor question about a cemetery book in White County, TN. In the 1960-1970's an attemp was done by Charles Leonard, Mary R Hudgens, Nancy Goolsby and my note says that Mary Mitchell helped on this project. Anyway the book was never published. I have a copy of this book. Charles Leonard and Mary Mitchell are both deceased. Mary R Hudgens has given her blessings as to putting this information on the White County page. I do not know exactly how to do that however, I have written to Mr. Keathly about this subject. I still do not know how to put the large amount of information on the page without running into problems. Until that is figured out I will do look up for anyone interested.
