You can read about the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1878 under city of MARTIN on Weakley County website. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etnweakle/martin.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etnweakle/Yellow_Fever_Martin_TN_History.html One of the true heroes of the time was Railroad man, Andrew Shepherd http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etnweakle/Andrew_Shepherd_Railroadman.html Abner ATKINSON - 1st to be buried in Yellow Fever Cemtery. - Mrs ATKINSON also listed, but no tombstone found. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etnweakle/54_Yellow_Fever_Cemetery.html Several years ago, when I took photos of the tombstones in Yellow Fever Cemetery, I was surprised that there were only a handful of tombstones from the Yellow Fever Epidemic. The following have been listed in earlier sources - I must have missed, or it is no longer there - the tombstone of Mrs Sarah E. wife of W. H. DRAKE. - the rest I did find and are up under TOMBSTONE project. I got to wondering about the other deaths (listed in early newspapers) - were they buried in Yellow Fever Cemetery without a tombstone that survived?? Where some of them buried in family cemteries?? If you have any info on where any of those listed are buried, please let me know. See list below those with tombstones in Yellow Fever Cemetery. Thanks, MaryCarol I already found one - Mrs. Marshall MARTIN (Cora Belle WILSON) b. 7-3-1852 d. 9-10-1878 buried in Old Martin Family Cemetery. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etnweakle/tombstones_WeakleyCo_TN.htm *A.
