PJ's impressive activity prompts me to pass along a bit of good news for local genealogy. UTM was recently given a large genealogy collection compiled by Harriett Edwards Derryberry which includes a broad swath through nineteenth century Weakley County families, some lines going back several hundred years. Best of all, the whole mass seems to be name accessible through 16 file drawers of index cards. I can't speak about the strength of her sources at this point, but it is an impressive collection. Now, before every one rushes to see it, we're still in the process of getting it into shape for research. Depending on the student help I have available, other pressures on time, etc., it will be a several months at least, and maybe into December or later, before the accompanying boxes of documentary material is entirely sorted, boxed, and organized for use, but keep it in mind as a future resource. I'll announce when the stuff becomes publicly available. It looks like a tremendous resource. ***** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ***** Richard Saunders, Curator Special Collections/Univ.
