Pj, are you and me the only ones who have any knowledge of Newborn/Mewborn Williams in Weakley County? I never see his name or anything about him except our posts. Surely someone else was connected to this family or perhaps we had better to back and see if we can find marriages in Henry and Stewart Counties. By Newborn being on the 1820 Stewart Co. census and the 1830 Henry County census it may be that he actually died there and his estate administrators, John McClain and John Williams of Weakley Co. were appointed administrators of his estate. For a man with a widow and children he surely is anonymous, isn't he? Yes, you mentioned that Mary, widow of Newborn/Mewborn Williams was found living in IL but some way that statement got away from me. Could you send it to me again, please? Dorothy White
Dorothy, I totally agree............seems to me that NO ONE but me and you have ever heard of Newborn WILLIAMS.............I am going to include my notes on this man here ............As far as I know Mary lived out her life in Weakley Co.............. NOTE: Sorry the surnames are not in CAPS but the reason being I just copied and pasted to this email..............pj This is so far......... MAKING MY CASE FOR LYDIA ?? McCLAIN TO BE LYDIA WILLIAMS DAUGHTER OF NEWBERN AND MARY WILLIAMS Lura Laney Evans signed an affidavit September 3, 1954 in Union County, North Carolina which she stated "...I am seventy eight years of age, having been born January 30, 1876 and I was the daughter of Augustus Alexander Laney and Mary Elizabeth Pistole. Mary Elizabeth Pistole was the daughter of Charles Pistole and Margaret Williams Pistole.. Margaret Williams Pistole was the daughter of William Williams and Lydia Bivens Williams. William Williams was the son of the Rev. Joseph Williams, Jr. and Martha Parrott Williams. The Rev. Joseph Williams, Jr. was the son of Joseph Williams, Sr. and Mary Newborn." The name LYDIA is found in the McCLAIN family........As you can see the name Newborn, Newburn, Newbern is from Mary Newborn listed above... ....Not a common name at all. John and Lydia named their 3rd son Newbern. ......1st son was named Allen (I think John's father was really Charles Allen, but no proof of this) 2nd son was Joseph, John's grandfather and Lydia's grandfather........then 3rd son named Newbern (this indeed goes with the standard naming pattern). Email from Dorothy White on 13th day of July 2006 Mewborn Williams also called Newborn Williams s/o Joseph Williams and Martha Perrett d 1837 in Weakley Co., TN. John Williams and John Mclane/McClain named administrators of his estate. Mewborn had a sister, Rebecca Williams and her husband Hosea James who are also found on the 1830 Weakley Co., TN census but moved on to AR and died there around 1850. Mewborn was born in Sampson Co., NC and moved to Anson Co., NC after his father and siblings moved there around 1800. Joseph, his father deeded him land in 1812 in Anson Co., NC and he is found on the Anson Co. War of 1812 militia roll. Any information on his children and wife would be greatly appreciated. Dorothy C. White dotwhite@comcast.net 804.795.4296 This gives a time frame to establish the fact that the WILLIAMS and McCLAINs were living around each other and were probably related by marriage someway. I'd also be curious to know where in IL Mary Williams lived and when. I've got a couple of Williams - born in the 1830's - that are a brick wall. Mahala Angelina Williams (married Robert C. McAbee in 1852) was born in Weakley TN. She and her husband ended up living in Massac County IL sometime after 1860, migrating there from Graves County KY. Are there any lists of the children of Newborn Williams or John Williams? I haven't been able to find Mahala Angelina (who goes by Anna, Angelina, M.A. and other variants) or her sister Martha in the 1850 census but I'd sure like to get this line back another generation.
