Yes!! It might not be the transcription so much as the initial rendering in the census. Here are examples of how the Doherty name was spelled: Dorherty Dority Dorrity Daugherty Dougherty Doherity Dogherty I am researching the Richard Doherty and Prudence (Bethana) Mitchell family. If Rebecca Doherty who wrote the history of Richard Doherty for the Weakley County History is on this list, I sure would like to correspond with her. Kay
Ahhh, if PJ Thompson or Garry Brown hasn't already corresponded with you, I'll bet they will. There is DORRITY, DOUGHERTY, etc. in PJs McCLAIN line (which is my McLAIN line that came to Lawrence Co AR before 1850) ... I can't with with much authority on your line, but PJ and Garry might be able to do so. Were yours ever in White or Warren Co TN? I found a ton of land records in Warren Co for George DORRITY, dating from early 1800s. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kay Blaha" <kayblaha@integra.net> To: <TNWEAKLE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2007 12:47 PM Subject: [TNWEAKLE] Census indices > Yes!!
