I received this obituary from Mary Anne of James R. Smyth of Lansing, Mich. It lists Hugh Smyth as his father. I have a Hugh D. Smyth in my files b. abt. 1906 the son of Captain/Coplin and Margaret Elizabeth Unknown Smyth. Does anyone know if this is his line. Joe Stout James R. Smyth Chippewa Lake, MI Formerly of Holt Age 79, passed away on July 31, 2007. He was born on December 18, 1927 in Weakly County, TN, the son of Hugh and Christine Smyth. Mr. Smyth was employed at General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1978. He graduated from Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, where he was an outstanding athlete. He loved hunting and dancing, and overcame many challenges associated with his deafness. He was a member of the Lansing Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Christine Smyth, and by his son, James. Surviving are: 2 brothers, Robert (Dee) Smyth of Haslett and Hugh (Linda) Smyth of Port Charlotte, FL; sister, Malinda Haindel of Charlotte, MI; many nieces and nephews, as well as L.B. and Joan Pentecost, his primary friends and caregivers in his retirement years. A memorial service will be held for his family and close friends, at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at the Estes-Leadley Holt Delhi Chapel.
