There was not a thing in the paper about this incident this week......am I correct Joe? I sure didn't find anything but you better believe I am going to find out WHO did this................. I know of no reason I can't put their names on this list since it is a matter of public records..........these sort of things usually happen by young people from surrounding towns .........alot of times it is done by children of people in public office, etc..........WHY? ..........if we have a lawyer on here, I would like to know the answer to my question.........is there any reason I can't put the names on this list???? PJ, I'm not a lawyer (I was a paralegal for 21 years), but I did some research into defamation of character and libel. Defamation of character or libel, classified as torts in the state of Tennessee, is a statement or act (usually published) that damages the reputation or livelihood of a person. You do not commit these torts if the statement is true and is a matter of public record. I would suggest that if you publish those names on this list you should, unless they have been convicted of these crimes, use the words "alleged perpetrators of the crime" to describe the people listed. You should make sure you get the information from a public record and not from word of mouth from someone else. I share your outrage but I wouldn't want to see you get sued.
