    3. Just as a clue for anyone who might be researching the family of A. E. SCOTT, listed in the Weakley Co. Goodspeed bios --- the bio states "His mother's maiden name was FULLER, and she was a descendant of the HALL family of North Carolina, one of whom was Secretary of State of North Carolina for a number of years." First, let me say that the actual Goodspeed book DOES list the name as HALL, but the correct family name was HILL, not HALL. Susan FULLER SCOTT (1827 - 1906) was the great niece of William HILL (III), who was Secretary of State of North Carolina for 46 years from 1811 until his death in 1857. There has never been a Secretary of State in North Carolina named HALL. William HILL (III) was the gg uncle of A. E. SCOTT, and was the brother of my ggg grandfather, James HILL. Even with the occasional inaccuracy, the Goodspeed bios are tremendously valuable for research. Thanks very much for posting them.
