    3. Looking for connections to the JOHNS family. Who is Jesse Wiseman JOHNS and where did he come from, who are his parents, who was his first wife ... Jesse Wiseman JOHNS was born about 1811 in either NC or TN depending on which census you read Jesse was married twice. First marriage to a possible Betty Wood/Woods. No information. Children of first marriage: Joseph Hayward JOHNS 1828 TN - 1917 MO Susan M. JOHNS 1832 TN - 1889 TN (my ancestor) married Gaines JONES Arethusa JOHNS about 1840 TN - ? no info Cashon JOHNS abt 1842 TN - ? no info Nancy JOHNS abt 1844 - ? no info James JOHNS abt 1848 - ? no info Second marriage to Charlottie EVERETT between 1848-1850 in either KY or TN. Charlottie was born in 1827 KY, died 1878 Weakely Co, TN. (Notice the age differences between Jesse and Charlottie) Children of second marriage: John Wesley JOHNS 1851 TN - 1915 (assumed Weakley Co) Mary Virginia JOHNS 1853 Weakley Co, TN - 1882 Weakley Co, TN Forest Lee JOHNS 1863 Weakley Co, TN - 1919 Fulton Co, KY Wiseman JOHNS and Charlottie Everett are buried at the New Hope Cemetery, no markers. >From the journal of Robert A. Wood (1849-1908), Weakley County Remembered Volume II, complied by Pansey Nanny Baker and Charlotte Stout Reynolds in 1981 and reprinted in 2007: Choloty Johns the wife of Wisemon Johns departed this life Nove 15, 1878 Old Man Wisemon Johns departed this life Jan 15, 1873 The only info I have about the first marriage comes from my grandfather, Carlis Gatewood's memory. He told my mother over 30 years ago that the parents of his mother Gorder JONES were Gaines (Gess) JONES and Susan JOHNS. Susan's parents were Jesse Wiseman JOHNS and Betty Woods and that Jesse had remarried and had three more children. My Granddad knew no other information of this lady Betty Woods. For years this was the only info we had. Recently I recieved the death certificate of Joseph Hayward JOHNS. It lists his father as Jesse JOHNS and mother as Unknown WOODS. This is the only possible verification of her name. There has been references to a "Old Uncle Woods" belonging to the JOHNS family. The last four children from the first marriage are listed on the 1850 Weakley Co Census, with Charlotte as Jesse's wife. Arethusa is listed with the family on the 1860 Hickman Co, KY census but none of the younger children are. None of these children are listed on the 1870 Weakley County cenus, only the children from the second marriage. I can find no records of any of these four siblings (Arethusa, Cashon, Nancy or James) Joseph is the only sibling of my ancestor Susan I have been able to trace. I do not know where Susan is buried. Her husband Gaines is buried in New Hope Cemetery. From the same journal of Robert Wood is this reference: Gess Jones departed this life June 18, 1887. Suson Jones wife of Gess Jones departed this life Dec 24, 1889. All these references though with a surname of WOOD leads me to believe there really is a Betty WOOD/WOODS. Can anyone help with this WOOD Family? I would also like to research the EVERETT family and their connection. Another interesting note: Susan JOHNS married Gaines JONES. Her brother Joseph married Margaret JONES. They moved to Putnam Co, MO before 1860. Margaret and Gaines were siblings. Their parents were Hiram JONES and Martha BURTON. On the Weakley County Web site is a JOHNS Family Reunion photo. The date is about 1914. There are several unidentified family members. In the past couple of weeks another researcher has been able to identify a few more members. I have sent these names to Mary Carol for the web site but will also post them in a seperate email. The surnames of members now include: JOHNS GATEWOOD PHILLIPS MORRISON MIDYETT JONES COLLEY Cris Gatewood Bean
