A sweet couple contacted me over the weekend - seems there was some kinda mention of me and my Weakley County website in recent Weakley County Press newspapers - so they found me. They live on the land where the old John JENKINS family cemetery is outside of Sharon and they have done a WONDERFUL job of preserving it and keeping it up. We went out first of week and took photos for my TOMBSTONE project. I added some JENKINS info on the first JENKINS CEMETERY webpage - the JENKINS are listed under J of Tombstone Index and their dau Mary H JENKINS GLENN and husband, Robert J. GLENN are under J. Joe - Robert GLENN was listed by the WPA in 1939 as having been a CONFEDERATE SOLDIER - but he died in April of 1861?? http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etnweakle/JENKINS_CEM.html The WPA had cemetery established in 1842 with apprx 85 graves on 1/2 acre. They had 6 tombstones listed in 1939. Today there are only 5. John JENKINS Winifred A. McALLISTER JENKINS - wife John A. JENKINS - son Mary H. JENKINS GLENN - dau Robert J. GLENN - husband of Mary H. WPA 1939 - had Eliza JENKINS McKEEN buried in 1842 [dau of John & Winifred JENKINS] MaryCarol
Ft. Sumter was not fired on until April 12, 1861 and TN did not secede until after that. He died on April 10, 1861. Evidently some error somewhere. Unusual for someone born in 1805 to serve.
