    3. The green tomato relish that we are looking for is made like sauerkraurt. The tomatoes, peppers and I believe cabbage were put through an old fashioned food grinder. Salt is added. It is then placed in a crock with a plate placed on top and weighted down. I do not remember how it was treated after that. I sure hope that someone out there has the recipe. So when fall comes I can start making it. There is nothing better with pinto beans and cornbread. Glenda COOK Melson

    3. My mother (who lived in Weakley Co.)also made and canned green tomato relish every year which she called Green Tomato Catsup/Ketchup. It was fairly sweet, not hot or really spicy, and consisted of green tomatoes, cabbage, onion, salt and sugar. Those are the only ingredients that I can remember as being a part of her recipe. I do remember that I could have eaten a whole jar of it at one sitting. She also put hers through a food grinder that she fastened to the table. I think she cooked it before canning it so I imagine she used vinegar in the recipe also. I hadn't thought about it in years. It brings back memories and makes me wish I had some. LOL Maybe I'll try making one of pj's relish recipes.
