Allman...ironically, his wife's name was also Susan. If this is true, William would be my 4th great uncle, I think I have that right. The Allman family in Weakley Co prior to 1900 was quite large. I can't keep up with all the great aunts and uncles and where they all went. Now the family is quite small...my father is still living and I have one younger brother, one 2nd and two 3rd Allman cousins which brings the total number of living Allmans who are directly descended from Seaborn Allman, the oldest Allman anyone has been able to find in Weakley Co, to six individuals. All the Allmans in Weakley Co are descended from Seaborn, so far as I have been able to tell. The different spelling of the name is really not unusual. My great grandfather, Bruce Allman, actually switched back and forth from spelling the name Allman, Allmon and Almon. I had some relatives living in Gleason, which is in Weakley Co, who spell! ed it Allmon but we were all the same people. Try looking for James (Jas) W. Allman and his father, William Worthy Allman. This may give you a good starting point for finding more about William. Like I said, if it was one of family members who left Weakley Co, I just don't know much about them. There are so many Allmans there in the 19th century who stayed that I'm still working on them. Sorry I got so long winded...just thought if I said enough it might give you something to go on. I would very much like to remain in contact and learn what you are able to find out. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
