I've had a lot of trouble tracing my Sammons line because of the surname--it frequently gets mixed in with Simmons--and it might have gotten changed to Simmons somewhere down the line--and there are a LOT of Simmons! :-) I don't have much on John--I'll try to do some digging this weekend--I think I have a 70's census on the family. I do have a notation from some marriages from the Weakley website--J.F. Simmons married S.C. Jolly on 17 Sept 1874, but I have no idea if this is John Sammons. What year did he go to Texas?
