Thanks so much, Len. Do you know if Madgie is the Madgie Jones who is buried in Freeman Cemetery, Weakley Co. with dates (transcription) 1907 - 1921? I just can't figure out the discrepancy between the death date and the birth date of her daughter Virginia. Thanks again. Brenda, According to the 1910 Weakley Census (District 20), Madgie was born about 1902. She was 8 years old in that Census. She had a younger sister, Maggie, who was born about 1907-1908. Hi Len, I got my census data from transcription so I'm wondering if the transcription is incorrect. Here's the transcription below. Maybe you have the images, and the transcription is wrong. Also, from this transcription, I thought it possible that Maggie and Madgie were one person. In the 1910 census below, Madgie was 3 (tombstone (if it's hers) shows birthdate in April 1907). Then in 1920, dau., Maggie (Madgie spelled incorrectly???) was 12. This census was taken in Jan. so she'd have been thirteen in April if it's the same person who is buried in Freeman Cemetery. Thanks for your response, and I'd appreciate your thoughts on this census. Could the transcriber have mistaken the 8 that you mentioned for a 3? If so, what happened to dau., Madgie by the 1920 census? Maybe the Madgie Sadler who married A. J. Jones wasn't the dau. of John P. ???? 1910 Weakley Co. In the 1910 Census, Esther , listed as a daughter 14 years old, was listed as Esther Brummitt, age 4. daughter, in the 1900 Census. Confusing, yes, because the 1900 Census would lead one to believe that Esther was a child of Bettie by a previous marriage to a Brummitt--yet it says that she is a daughter of John P. Also, in re-looking at the 1910 Census, Madgie's age could be a 3 rather than an 8. And Madgie and Maggie aren't shown together on the 1920 Census. So I would have to agree that Madgie (1910) is most likely the same as Maggie (1920). Still believe, by the data, that Madgie/Maggie is a daughter of John P. and Bettie. Yes, I have the Census images--1910 lists Brummitt (the son) as age 6 rather than 5 as you show. I could find no previous marriage for either John P. or Bettie and yet John P.'s age would imply an earlier marriage. Do not have a death date for Madgie but my data shows marriage to A. J. "Bud" in about 1921when she would have been only 14 years old if born in 1907. Strange!?!. Thanks, Len. Yes, it's been a mystery to me for several years. Every once in a while I try again to figure it out. It's very possible that she and "Bud" married when she was 13 or 14. The funny thing is that I remember "Bud" Jones from my childhood as he was a frequent visitor at our house, being a relative of my mother's. He never married again after his first marriage and, during my childhood, lived with his unmarried brother W.T. (nicknamed "Dick") in the home of his daughter Virginia Ann and her husband, Willie Klutts. What a trove of information those people from my childhood could have provided. I wish I'd been genealogically inclined at a young age! LOL Thanks again for your help.
