PJ I am so very sad to hear about the loss in your family...I cried as you told about your mom.....God forgot to put the lid on the bottle of tears he gave us for a reason..... I will remember you in my prayers..... when you get your book ready...I will be one of many that will want a copy...so will start saving my egg money now....I know how to "freeze" fresh veggies but not a clue how to properly can so the food does not get mushy and break down in the jar......too many folks have given me stuff they canned and it tasted "funny" and looked funny too.... The woman that died that day was my grandmother, Mama JONES aka Lucy Caroline McCLAIN JONES born Apr 30, 1877 ,was my Mama's mama but to me she was my friend, my playmate, my sister, my mama, my grandmama, my EVERYTHING to me.........my Mama, Ellen Beauton "Boots" JONES HOWARD lived until Aug 29, 1996.......we canned a lot of tomatoes after Aug 13, 1964......but I would not touch a tomato to can for at least 2 years..........there is a little more to this story......2 weeks to the day before Aug 13, 1964 one of our neighbors died and guess what me and Mama was canning tomatoes then 2 weeks later to the day canning tomatoes and Mama JONES died. I can much easier than me and Mama did......we always (no matter how hot it was) sat out front under the shade trees with tubs of water and tomatoes......nowdays, I heat the tomatoes 45 seconds in boiling water and that makes life a lot easier. We also sat under that shade tree to cut corn off.........flies, heat and the juice from the corn......WOW.......I cut it off in the house these days........nothing better than fried corn!!!!! I want to thank everyone for your kind words........it has really been tough......3 deaths in 4 days.......and people that I was close to........... I don't have a clue when the books will be done.......started it 2 years ago........but at least made pictures this year.......I am not doing it to make money, just cover my cost.......I want to leave something of me behind and I guess this is the best I can do........I have never had any complaints about my canning........been canning salsa today.........probably put up a couple bushels today........I make tons of salsa every year because everybody loves it and I give so much away........I make mild, medium, hot and VERY hot......... And folks this is genealogy also.........canning and preserving food is as old as man!
