Dan B. Abbott Dan B. Abbott, 76, of Rutherford, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at his residence. Services were held on Sunday at Leitherland Funeral Home Chapel in Rutherford with Bro. Jerry Smith and Bro. Eddie Ray officiating. Burial was in Rutherford City Cemetery. Abbott was the son of the late Raymond and Jessie Abbott. He was a surveyor for the Tennessee Department of Transportation and a charter member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church of Rutherford. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Ann Hurt Abbott of Rutherford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Donna Abbott of Dyer, Alan and Tracy Abbott of Rutherford; one daughter and son-in-law, Danise and Tim Hazlewood of Martin; one sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Lynn McNatt of Jackson; five grandchildren, Jacob and Rachel Abbott, Victoria Abbott and Maddie Abbott, all of Rutherford, Logan Abbott and Faith Abbott, both of Dyer; and two great-grandchildren, Jaxon Abbott and Chandler Abbott, both of Rutherford. Carolyn Lee Sims Doss Mrs. Carolyn Lee Sims Doss, 66, of Martin, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 at Baptist Memorial East Hospital, Memphis. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Martin with Rev. Bruce McCaleb, Rev. David Freeman and Rev. Bobby Williams officiating. Burial will be in Mason Hall Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and at First Baptist Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Mrs. Doss was born June 28, 1944 in Mason Hall, daughter of the late Thurman and Lottie Elvira Yarbrough Sims. She received a bachelor degree in music education from Bethel College in McKenzie. She was the choir director at Gleason United Methodist Church for 18 years. She was a music teacher at Martin Primary School, was organist and pianist at First Baptist Church, Martin and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She also accompanied the West Tennessee Chorale and Choral Society, both at the University of Tennessee at Martin, was a member of the Music Educators National Conference as a Certified Teacher of Music in Piano and held the Professional Certificate in Piano and Standard Certificate as a Teacher of Piano from the Music Teachers National Association. She also served as President of the Martin Area Music Teachers' Association and Phiharmonic Music Guild. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Elwood Doss Jr. of Martin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Edward "Chuck" and Suzanne Doss of Union City, Daniel Elwood and Emily Doss of Valparaiso, Ind.; one daughter, Deborah Leigh Doss of Milan; one brother, W. T. Sims of Yorkville; and three grandchildren, Oliver Emmanuel "Manny" Doss, Katie Lane Frankum and Grace Frankum. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home Chapel in Waverly with Bro. John Forgy of Trezevant and Bro. Scott Bond of Martin officiating. Burial will be in Richlawn Cemetery, Waverly. Mrs. Willhite was born Oct. 3, 1930 in Waverly, daughter of the late Albert Lloyd and Mary Hust Johnson. She was the widow of George Dennis Willhite. She was a retired secretary for the Director of State Parks in Nashville and a member of Martin Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Denise W. and Steve Reynolds of Martin; one brother, Reese Johnson of Waverly; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Eulene Stokes of Lewisburg and Valoise and Jim Fuller of Clinton; two granddaughters, Maris and Wes Reynolds Boudreau of Warner Robins, Ga. and Sara Hust Reynolds of Nashville; and one great-granddaughter, Kaylan Grace Boudreau of Warner Robins. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Johnson.
