Harley James Trowhill Posted: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 4:35 pm Harley James Trowhill, 88, of Sharon, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010 at Volunteer Community Hospital, Martin. Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel, Sharon with Rev. Richard Denton and Rev. Harold Stricker officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sharon. Jimmy Brinkley, Matthew Briscoe, Chris Brinkley, Eddie Brinkley, Allen Trowhill and Curt Trowhill served as pallbearers. Trowhill was born Jan. 3, 1922 in Applegate, Mich. He was a retired manager of Michigan Sugar Company in Croswell, Mich. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Trowhill of Sharon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Charles Briscoe of San Diego, Calif. and Janice and Justin Gill of Sharon; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Harley Dean and Trena Trowhill of Grand Ledge, Mich. and James Keith Trowhill of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Olive Trowhill of Sandusky, Mich.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. wcp 10/19/10 Nathaniel Owens Posted: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 4:33 pm Nathaniel Owens, 78, of Martin, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Jackson. Services were held at noon on Saturday at Progressive Baptist Church, Martin with Rev. John Williams, Rev. Leroy Brent, Rev. Paul Jenkins and Rev. L. C. Horton officiating. Burial was in Parham Cemetery, Martin with Murphy Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Sterling Owens III, Jeff I. Owens, James R. Owens, Kenneth E. Edwards Jr., Corey T, Brock and Kareem Evans served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers Hoover Nunley, Joe Crutchfield, Robert "Bobby" Powell, Willie Brown Jr., Carmack Smith and Jimmy Jones. Owens was born Oct. 14, 1931 in Martin, son of the late Sterling and Zelma Riley Owens. He was a veteran of the United States Army, retired security guard at Milan Arsenal in Milan and member of Progressive Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Barbara Ann Mitchell Owens of Martin; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Keith Edwards, Kevin and Xzondria Edwards, Bart Chandler and Mark Chandler, all of Martin; and one sister, Ima Joyce Hopkins of Martin. Pelia community near Martin, died Friday, Oct. 15, at his residence. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sorrell Chapel Cemetery in Dyer County with Rev. Leroy Brent officiating. Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home, Union City was in charge of the arrangements. Family members served as pallbearers. McKnight was born Aug. 1, 1957 in Dyersburg, son of the late Albert Wayne and Virginia Maxine Jackson McKnight. Survivors included three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Christa McKnight of Mt. Pelia, Chad and Melissa McKnight of Gleason and Phillip Wayne Dorse of Dyersburg; two daughters, Stacey Diane Balentine of Friendship and Kimberley Golden of Covington; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirry and Larry Balentine and Ollie and Billy Joe Martindale, all of Friendship; two brothers, Donnie Shelton and Ronnie Shelton, both of Friendship; and eight grandchildren.
