Ruby Workman Posted: Friday, October 1, 2010 12:48 pm Mrs. Ruby Workman, 97, of Dresden, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 at the Weakley County Rehab and Nursing Center, Dresden. Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel, Dresden with Elder Randy Walker and Greg Alderdice Jr. officiating. Burial was in Matheny Grove Cemetery, near Dresden. Keith Douglas, Rob Cantrell, Dylan Hesley, Greg Alderdice, Kyle Alderdice and Corey Alderdice served as pallbearers. Mrs. Workman was born Sept. 25, 1913 in Weakley County, daughters of the late Robert and Bessie Brundige Burcham. She was the widow of Fred Green Workman, a housewife and member of Matheny Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Joan Alderdice of Dresden; one sister, Virginia Sudberry of Dresden; three grandchildren, Janet and Rob Cantrell, Greg and Karen Alderdice and Krista Dadd; and four great-grandchildren, Faith and Dylan Hesley, Greg Alderdice Jr., Keith and Denise Douglas, and Kiran Dadd. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Norma Sue Workman and Ophelia Mazzoni; and three sons, Eddie Lane Workman, Jess Workman and Oma Workman. Web site: www.bowlinfuneralhome.com WCP 9.30.10 Lynda Shannon Posted: Friday, October 1, 2010 7:41 am Lynda Larkin Shannon passed away at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital on Friday, September 24. Lynda was born to the late Mr. John Larkin and Mrs. Elaine Walker Brewer of Dyersburg, Tennessee. A graduate of Dyersburg High School, and an undergraduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and received a masters degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was most recently employed as a consultant, speaker and trainer for Fred Pryor Seminars, but also enjoyed careers in executive staffing, sales, management and teaching. Lynda was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dresden and served the church in many capacities, most notably as the Chair of the Financial Committee, Chair of the Welcome Home Committee, and as a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the Disaster Relief Team III. Lynda lived a spirited life and loved every minute of it. She was very involved in the community of Dresden and loved the people and the events of the town. In conjunction with the Iris Festival, she was named as a Golden Iris and always looked forward to participating in the flower show. A competitive bridge player, she was a member of the American Bridge Contract League and played in various weekly matches around Northwest Tennessee. While she loved bridge, it took a backseat to golf when the weather cooperated and she played regularly at Persimmon Hills Golf Course with her dear friends. Lynda loved her family dearly and is survived by her two children, Martin Bruce of Lakeland, TN and Libi Bruce Riggs of Collierville, TN; four grandchildren, Miller and Ellie Riggs, and Martin Bruce III and Ashton Bruce; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Bruce; son-in-law, Allen Riggs; and her brother, John Larkin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Shannon, and her sister, Brenda Belew. A memorial service was held on Monday, September 27, at the Dresden First United Methodist Church. The family requests that any memorials to Lynda be made in her name to the Dresden United Methodist Church Building Fund. Services were held at 11 a.m. today at Beech Springs Baptist Church of Gleason with Bro. Bob Copeland officiating. Burial was in Beech Springs Cemetery with Williams Funeral Home in Gleason in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Reynolds was born Aug. 20, 1930 in Walnut, Miss., daughter of the late Jack and Dovie Usery Culver. She was a factory worker and a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Emmitt Reynolds of Gleason; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Bobby Babb of Gleason; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger Don and Barbara Reynolds of Camden; three sisters, Bonnie Campbell of Trenton, Yvonne Ramos of Pontiac, Mich. and Fay Carey of Dyer. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at McKenzie Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rick Walker and Bro. Edward Eubank officiating. Burial was in Olivet Cemetery, McKenzie. Goodrum was born Nov. 21, 1939 in Selmer, son of the late Onie Nathaniel and Ruby O'Dell Gable Goodrum. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the years of 1957-64. He was the retired owner of the McKenzie Lumber Company, a member of the American Legion, Gideons and of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church near Austin Springs. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mrs. Teresa Ann Scott Goodrum of Dresden; one daughter, Carrie Hollowell of Trezevant; two sons, Doug Goodrum of Paris and Jonathan Goodrum of Dresden; two sisters, Linda Robertson of Memphis and Rita Fulcher of Latham; two brothers, Max Goodrum of McKenzie and Rex Goodrum of Sharon; and three grandchildren. wcp 9/28/10
