    3. Ruby Hodges Peacock Posted: Wednesday, October 6, 2010 8:34 am Mrs. Ruby Odessa Hodges Peacock, 96, of Martin, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 at Volunteer Community Hospital, Martin. Services was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at North Winona Baptist Church, Winona, Miss. with Bro. John Lumbley officiating. Burial will be in Milligan Springs Cemetery, Kilmichael, Miss. with Bowlin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Peacock was born July 1, 1914 in Mingus, Palo Pinto County, Texas, daughter of the late William Morris and Lenore Belle Strahan Hodges. She was the widow of Johnie Erlin Peacock. She was a housewife and member of North Winona Baptist Church and Eastern Star. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ed Wayne and Roberta Peacock of Martin; two sisters, Olene Grantham of Lancaster, Calif. and Gelena Williams of Eupora, Miss.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchldren. She was also preceded in death by one son, David Peacock; two sisters; and two brothers. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Friday at East Side Cemetery, Martin with Bro. Jerry Powell and Bro. David Brown officiating and Gardner Funeral Home of Sharon in charge of the arrangements. Kenny King, Jon Breland, Matt Williamson, Larry Talley, Richard Kelly and Jeff Walker served as pallbearers. Nelson was born Oct. 14, 1948, son of Hershel and Dorothy Nelson of Martin. Survivors also include two sisters and one brother-in-law, Dana and Jon Breland of Martin and Debbie Williamson of Clarksville; one brother, Don Nelson of Sharon; and several nieces and nephews. wcp 10/5/10 James I. Holly Posted: Wednesday, October 6, 2010 8:29 am James I. Holly, 96, of Martin, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010 at Volunteer Community Hospital, Martin. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Martin with Rev. James Kinsey and Rev. Bruce McCaleb officiating. Burial will be in Obion County Memorial Gardens, Union City with Murphy Funeral Home of Martin in charge of the arrangements. Larry Fowler, Gerald Merritt, Chris Merritt, Gary Mansfield, Ronnie Bynum and Harry Lee Caudle will serve as pallbearers. Holly was born Aug. 30, 1914 in Jordan, Ky., son of the late James Hamilton and Sally Hammonds Holly. He was the widower of Patty Sue Scott Holly. He served in the U. S. Army and U. S. Navy where he taught flying at Gill-Dove Airport in Martin. He taught Navy students at UT Junior College for 3 ½ years. After his discharge, he moved to Dyersburg where he opened his own city airport and continued to run the airport, taught flying and did crop dusting in four states. While at the airport, he became certified as a private and commercial flight examiner. A tornado destroyed his airport and he moved to Union City where he was employed by Lear Siagler in Union City as an electrician and a pilot for 23 years. When the plant closed he did crop dusting and continued to teach flying at Taylor Aviation in Union City. After retiring, he continued flying and worked with a local farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He celebrated his 90th and 91st birthdays by flying his daughter and son-in-law at the Everett-Stewart Regional Airport in Union City. Survivors includes one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Sue and Duane Merritt of Martin; two grandsons and their wives, Jason and Delmy Merritt and Mike and Vicky Merritt; one nephew and his wife, Jerry and Sherry McBride; three nieces, Anita Brannen, Lynn Davis and Lisa Schwanbeck; four grandchildren, Hannah Merritt, Natalie Merritt, Darlen Merritt and Samantha Merritt; and great-great-grandchild, Colton Drake. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice McBride and Lois Butler.
