    3. Tilmon Johnson was born 02 Apr 1804 in Johnston Cty, NC, the son of Uriah Johnson and Jane Carrell. He moved to Maury Cty, TN with his father in 1809. About 1819 he was in Carroll Cty, was a chain bearer, and helped auction off the 12th district. He purchased town lot #80 in Huntingdon as reported in the Carroll Cty Court Min, Tilmon married Lucinda Fowler in 1825 in Carroll Cty, TN. On 5 Dec 1826, Charles Simpson, agent and atty for Matthew M. Green, deeded Tilman Johnson 150 acres in Weakley Cty, TN for $187.50 adjacent to Moses Green property on Lick Creek. He entered another 50 acres in Carroll Cty. in 1831 and 200 acres in 1835. Between 1840 and 1850, Tilmon & family moved to 10th Dist, Weakley Cty. He sold and bought various tracts of land. He donated land for the old Beech Springs Baptist Church and Cemetery, 3 miles south of Gleason. Old church minutes of Sep 1848 show him as a charter member along with William F. Johnson, et al. In Pauline McDonald's book, she reported that in 1849 Tilmon and his two oldest sons, William F. and Elija W. went to California during the gold rush. The oldest son, William F. Johnson died in 1850-51 while on the trip and was buried at sea. According to McDonald's book, Tillman returned home in 1851. Lucinda Fowler died 11 Sep 1855 in Weakley Cty, TN and is buried at the Old Beech Springs Cemetery, Weakley Cty, TN. Tilmon then married Cintha Goldsby Wray in Weakley Cty on 8 July 1856. She was a widow with either 4 or 5 children by Moses Wray. On Friday, 7 July 1878, the Dresden Democrat reported that at the Centennial Celebration the meeting was organized by the election of Reuben Edmonston, the oldest inhabitant in the county, as president and of Tilman Johnson, James Smyth, B. D. Hynds, Alfred Gardner, A. D. Cutler and E. D. Tansil, the next oldest citizens. Cynthia Ann Goldsby died 13 Oct 1880 in Weakley Cty, TN. She is buried at old Beech Springs Cemetery, Gleason, Weakley Cty, TN. He was a deacon in the Beech Springs Baptist Church and faithful member until his death. His funeral was held in the new church. Tilmon died at age 94 on 12 Nov 1898 (from his tombstone in the old Beech Springs Cemetery). Very few people know the location of this cemetery, however, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit it several years ago. Tombstones are still standing but are in need of repair.
