    3. Wow Elise, that must have really been horrible! It's good that now you can help others with your pictures and memories. On 9-10-2001 Alyce and I left Craig Colorado and headed home. We had been there to visit our daughter Evelyn and her family. The first night of our journey was spent in North Platte, Nebraska. The next morning, the 11th I had the motel TV on as we were preparing to have breakfast and head out for our next stop, in Western Missouri. Katy Couric was one of the anchors on the Today show at the time, and she interrupted whatever she was doing to tell us that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. Of course all other programming stopped as they tried to report on what they thought was an accident at first. While we were watching the second plane hit, and the realization began to dawn on us and the news crews that this was no accident. We didn't know anything to do but continue toward home, we listened to the radio all day as more details came out. We stopped at Ft. Kearney Nebraska for lunch at the park there, and the clerk had a TV going. She told us of the plane hitting the Pentagon, and we saw horrible scenes of people jumping out the windows of the twin towers. As we continued our journey we heard of the crash in Shanksville, Pa. and wondered what would be next. Of course we thought of the US Capitol, White House, and other large commercial buildings, but thank God, that was the last of the attacks! On thing that really bothered us was they way some merchants along the way seemed to be trying to take advantage of the situation. One gas station where we tried to get gas had raised the price from around $1.75 per gallon to around $4.00. And folks were so scared that they wouldn't be able to get it at any price that there was a line of cars that we didn't see the end of! We passed that one up, and heard on the radio that the governor of the state had announced that criminal charges would be brought against such practices, and by that night the prices were back down to about normal. The next day we made it to my folks' home near Mayfield, Ky., and stayed there a couple of nights. Alyce felt an urgency to get home, and with good reason; when we got home we found that we had been burglarized! So one nightmare was added to another. Do I remember 9-11-2001 and the following few days? You bet I do! We had a commemorative program on that subject yesterday at a Friends and Family gathering at Church. It is obvious that a lot of wounds from that day have healed, and it is equally obvious that a lot have not. We must be very vigilant, and PRAY that no enemy EVER has that opportunity again! ----- Dave in GA. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elise Myers" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, September 12, 2010 11:09 AM Subject: [TNWEAKLE] My 9-11 Experience Nine years ago yesterday, I was standing on top of an apartment building in Greenwich Village with my friend, Cherry Jones, watching every minute of the tragedy unfold before us. We were awestruck as you can imagine since we were only a mile away. <Snip>
