Obituaries for February 1 Posted: Wednesday, February 2, 2011 4:01 pm Earl Leroy Foland Earl Leroy Foland, 89, of Dresden, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at Parkway Regional Hospital, Fulton, Ky. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Cemetery with Bro. Mark Earheart officiating with Bowlin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Joe B. Freeman, James Butts, Charles Smith, Richard Baker, Tim Kemp, Robert Buckley, Jackie Darnell and Horace Harper served as pallbearers. Foland was born Feb. 11, 1921 in Perry, Mich., son of the late Earl and Anna Parker Foland. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a printer and teacher for the Weakley County Vocational School, a member of the American Legion Post 94, past member of Dresden Elks Lodge and a Methodist. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joan Kemp Foland of Dresden; one daughter and son-in-law, Roberta Ann and Charles Rish of Puryear; three stepdaughters, Jo Robbin Buckley of Dresden, Christie and Richard Baker of Dyersburg and Camille Kemp of Franklin; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Earl Everette Foland of Gleason, Charles Martin and Carmen Foland of Malta, Europe; one stepson, Timothy Kemp of Paris; one half brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Alene Foland of Ashley, Mich.; one stepbrother, Calvin Space of Grand Ledge, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three brothers. Web site: www.bowlinfuneralhome.com James Earl Hays James Earl Hays, 92, of Cottage Grove, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at his residence. Services were held at 11 a.m. today at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris with Mike Waddey officiating. Burial was in Walker Cemetery, Paris. Mark Chandler, J. W. Akers, Larry Clark, Emory Bradley, Glenn Oliver and Kevin Bomar served as pallbearers and Tommy Hunt served as honorary pallbearer. Hays was born Nov. 21, 1918 in Cottage Grove, son of the late Joe Sam and Alice Smyth Hays. He served on the Board of Directors at the Henry County Co-op, formerly served on the State Marketing Co-op Board, was a member of Cottage Grove Baptist Church, a deacon, Sunday School director for many years and served on three church building committees. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mrs. Raye Oliver Hays of Cottage Grove; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janice and Max Houston of Paris, Sherry Neal of Ledbetter, Ky., Bettie Joe and Mark Allen of Memphis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Box 67, Cottage Grove, TN 38224. Jerald Rex McNatt Jerald Rex McNatt, 81, of Latham, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at his residence. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Public Wells Cemetery near Martin with Bro. Paul Merwin officiating with Bowlin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mark Masco, Bobby Doughty, Tony Walker, Kenneth Roges, James Wall and Barry Wall served as pallbearers. McNatt was born Aug. 24, 1929 in Weakley County, son of the late Earl and Madge Carney McNatt. He was a 1947 graduate of Dresden High School, a self-employed electrician and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Latham. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jean Carlton McNatt of Latham; one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Benny Young of Memphis; two sons, Tommy McNatt of Latham and Ken McNatt of Little Rock, Ark.; and two grandchildren. "Charlie" Pitts Sr. of Hillsboro, Ore. died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011. Memorial services were held on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 at Hillsboro Presbyterian Church with a flag honor presentation followed under the direction of the American Legion Post 2 of Forrest Grove. Pitts was the son of the late Cotton and Mozelle Pitts. He was the widower of Jane Kay Rhodes Pitts. He was reared in Martin and attended Martin High School and the University of Tennessee at Martin. He was a United States Army veteran and an Eagle Scout. He was an executive of Genuine Auto Parts (NAPA). His job took them to Buffalo, N.Y., Albuquerque, N.M., Denver and Portland, Ore. While in Portland, he purchased Hillsboro Auto Parts and two other stores, which he operated with his sons. They sold the stores in 2002 and he retired. He was an active member of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and the Hillsboro Rotary Club and Rotary International. He was also on the board of Tuality Healthcare Foundation in Hillsboro. Survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Dan Freeman of Scottsboro, Ala., Barbara and Jim Masters of Gallatin; two daughters-in-law, Gwynne Pitts and Carolyn McCall; and three grandchildren, Corbin Preston Pitts, Cayce Calvert Pitts Jr. and Taylor Morrison Pitts.He was also preceded in death by his two sons, Charles Preston "Chuck" Pitts and Cayce Calvert Pitts.
