Obituaries for December 30 Posted: Friday, December 31, 2010 4:01 pm Paul K. Rea Paul K. Rea, 74, of Martin, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 at his home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kerry Shopher officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Christopher Rea, Adam Rea, Tony Warmath, Shannon Rea, Andy Rea and Terry Rea will serve as pallbearers. Rea was born Aug. 18, 1936 in Martin, son of the late Charles H. and Reba Prince Rea. He was a retired farmer and a former member of the Tennessee National Guard. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Barbara Oliver Rea of Martin; a son, Steven Keith Rea of Martin; a daughter, Lori Ann Rea, of Rives; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Donna Rea of Martin; three grandchildren, Melanie Warmath, Adam Rea and Christopher Travis Rea; and two great-granddaughters, Samantha Rose Warmath and Izabellaha Rea. Web site: murphyfuneralhome.net Zora Elizabeth Shofner Brasher Zora Elizabeth Shofner Brasher, 96, of Chapmansboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at her residence. Services were 1 p.m. Tuesday at McEvoy Chapel in Paris with Gary S. Collier officiating. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery. Brasher was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Henry County, daughter of the late A. D. and Elizabeth "Miss Lizzie) Greer Shofner. She was the widow of Harmon Elton Brasher, who she married in August 1940. She was a Baptist and a retired school teacher of 32 years. She was a graduate of UT Knoxville and received her Masters at UT Martin. She taught school at Jellico, Puryear Friendship and Martin. She was a member of ADK and received her 50-year pin. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Ellen and Milton McClurkan of Alva, Fla.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dan Brasher of Chapmansboro and Richard and Diana Brasher of Hayesville, N.C.; grandchildren Marc (Jennifer) Brasher, Kelley (Barrett) Smith, Stacey (Tim) Luna, Milton "Mac" (Donna) McClurkan and Robbie Berront; great-grandchildren Sophie Brasher, Audrey Smith, Tiffany Smith, Lee (Rita) Luna, Morgan Wallace, Mason Berront and Anna McClurkan; and a great-great-grandson, Hunter Luna. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Albert Shofner, Richard Shofner, Farris Shofner and William "Billy" Shofner; and a grandson, Rick Berront. Betty Lou Insco Knight Mrs. Betty Lou Insco Knight, 62, of Martin, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at her home. Graveside services were 2 p.m., Tuesday at East Side Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Knight was born Oct. 9, 1948, daughter of the late Grady and Novella Milton Insco. She was a waitress. Survivors include her caregiver and companion, Sonny Yates; a son, Steven L. Knight of Union City and one grandson, Adam Knight. Web site: murphyfuneralhome.net James E. "Jim" Trice Jim Tice died Dec. 19, 2010 at Brightmoor Assisted Living, Griffin, Ga. He was born near Sharon, Weakley Co., Tenn., and was a longtime resident with his family in Martin, moving to Griffin, in 1993. Jim now reunites with his wife, Mary Rollins Tice; a daughter, Nancy Kay Baird; a brother, William Hall Tice; and his mother and father, Jesse Cora Waggener and James Perry Tice. As one of 11 1934 graduates of Sharon High School, he played football so there would be enough boys to make a team. He began college at University of Tennessee Junior College, Martin, and then graduated in 1938 from UT Knoxville with a B.S. in Agriculture. There he met Mary K. Rollins who became his wife of 62 years. After a brief career teaching vocational Ag and shop at Kenton High School, Dyer Co., he fulfilled his military obligation by working the family farm near Sidonia, providing food for the war effort. After WWII he worked for the County Extension Service helping to resettle families displaced by the construction of Kentucky Lake. When Pet Milk Company located a plant in Martin in 1946, Jim joined the operations as Fieldman, a position held for 20 years. He ended his professional career as Business Manager for the University of Tennessee at Martin, during which time he earned a Masters of Education in Counseling. One very important part of Jim's life was his faith. He and Mary led the Young Couples Class at First Baptist Church, Martin, for many years. Later he taught the Men's Bible Class, a radio broadcast ministry. He also served as church treasurer for over 25 years. After retirement he enjoyed traveling with Mary, vegetable gardening, antique furniture restoration, picture framing, and was an avid researcher and collector of the genealogies for the Tice, Waggener and Rollins families. Family members who will miss him include: James R. and Marilee E. Tice, son and daughter-in-law; Ancil R. Baird, son-in-law; grandchildren John D. Baird, Andrew T. Baird and wife Dana, A. Daniel Margrave, Timothy E. Margrave and Seth W. Tice. The great-grandchildren Rollins, Reagan, Ian, and Sienna Baird will miss drawing pictures for "Pop". Interment will be at Tansil Cemetery, Sharon, at a later date.
