Nine years ago yesterday, I was standing on top of an apartment building in Greenwich Village with my friend, Cherry Jones, watching every minute of the tragedy unfold before us. We were awestruck as you can imagine since we were only a mile away. It was my first visit to NYC. Cherry and I had been on the ferry to Ellis Island the day before and all about the area surrounding the Twin Towers. My flight was scheduled to leave on Tuesday afternoon but after the attack and with all air traffic grounded for days, I was finally able to reach North Carolina by train on Friday. My husband drove five hours to get me at the AmTrak station. When we arrived home there were reporters from my small town newspaper waiting on our doorstep wanting to hear my story and see my pictures. I was emotionally, mentally and physically exhausted. One of the women's clubs in town called to asked me to speak about my experience. In three days, after developing thousands of pictures, I prepared a scrapbook to share with them as I told my story. Little did I know how much that book would come to mean to me and to others over the years. It has been a healing tool. Every year, I am contacted by the newspaper by usually a new reporter to tell my story again. It continues to help to relive the experience. Sometimes I even hope and pray for a different ending. In 2001, my youngest son, Sawyer, was ten years old. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine, nine years later, he would be a soldier in the Georgia National Guard 560th deploying next December. In November, I will be going to NYC for the first time since 2001. Cherry is making her return to Broadway in a George Bernard Shaw play, Mrs. Warren's Profession. On my agenda, is to visit Ground Zero and the museum. It will be another part of the healing process.
Cheryl, Thanks thats my Ray connection. I need to compare dates with what I have and see if Alcey is the wife I have for him at the time of death. Do you think I can assume that all of the people mentioned are either children or spouses of children of James Ray Jr. and that no grandchildren are included by name here? -----Original Message----- From: Cheryl <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sat, Sep 11, 2010 7:25 pm Subject: [TNWEAKLE] RAY extract notes...1845 sale of land in Henry Co TN Extracts: Filed Jan 21, 1845, Thomas Potts and Joseph Lamb. Matt, I was looking over the website and noticed your ancestor George Payne Fuller. My Payne family came from Weakley County. Perlemon and Harriett Murrell Payne are the ones I can find documentation for (around 1840). Their son Clinton DeWitt Payne migrated to Missouri after the war, and one of his daughters, Rosie Payne, married a Fuller. I don't know if we are in the same line, but I thought it odd to find a Payne-Fuller name in Weakley County. Thanks Bobby. I am descended from Silas MOORE and Sophronia BROGDON LAMB MOORE through Robert Lee MOORE and Frances Catherine Ann HEDGES MOORE. (Rob & Cattie) - my great grandparents. We have corresponded before but you have a few more dates filled in on some of the other lines than I do. Do you know any more about Joseph Wayne MOORE (son of Silas) who married Julia A. MOORE (son of John)? I know many descendants of that line. It was my understanding that Joseph and Julia were first cousins - do you know anything about this? My 3x's gr grandmother was Mary Ray b. about 1807 probably Tennessee according to the following census info. 1850 Census @ 13th Civil District, Henry Co., Tennessee, age 43, born Tennessee. Listed as Elizabeth, under Joseph in the wife position. 1860 Census @ District 13, Cheap Valley Post Office, Henry Co., Tennessee, age 53, born Tennessee. Listed as Mary Lamb, in the wife position in the household of Joseph Lamb. Earliest known child that I have for them is Thomas b. about 1833 Tennessee according to the 1850 Census where he is age 17 and eldest child., so probably married before 1833 but there may have been earlier children that were no longer at home. So they could have been possibly married circa 1825 or there abouts at the earliest. If you know anything about my 3x's gr grandmother I'd appreciate any help you may be able to give.
