    3. Hey PJ and others-- Yes, I'm still here--been busy, like Elise said, writing the Camp Tyson book and covering other goings-on in Paris this weekend. Anyway, five children were born to Sina Elizabeth Payne and Richard Seaborn Foy (my great-great-grandparents). Five were William Seaborn Foy, Lillie (my great-grandmother)Foy , James Louis Foy, John Leonard Foy, and Charles Clinton Foy. I believe you were asking about what happened to James Louis Foy. My records state he was born Dec. 3, 1873, died Oct. 10, 1964. He married Tommie Gates Dec. 25, 1901. I believe I found his grave at Knob Creek Cemetery in Dukedom. Anyway, if you need more detailed info, such as lists of all their children, I have it. Shannon McFarlin Paris

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: 1skroft Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.weakley/2305/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Need help determining parents of Mary Ann 'Mollie' Pike. She was born January 19, 1870 in Tennessee. Her first marriage was to Joe Bethel Long on November 28, 1892 in Weakley County, TN. They had a son Joe Bethel Long, Jr born May 16, 1894 in Kenton, Obion County, TN. Joe Long, SR may have died about 1897. Her second marriage was to William Travis Badgett on January 9, 1902 in Hopewell, Lamar County, TX. Badgett already had two children from a previous marriage, Willie and Della. Mary Ann and Badgett had two children of their own, William Travis Badgett Jr (b. 1906) and Anne Emma Badgett (b. 1904). Mary Ann died on April 14, 1937 in Sumner, Lamar County, TX. Her death certificate lists her parents as unknown. The 1910 census for the Badgett family living in Lamar county shows William Travis Badgett living with his wife Mary, daughters: Willie, Della, Annie, his son: Travis, and step-son: Joe Long. It also shows an aunt in the household by the name of Katherine Bruce. I have done extensive work on the ancestors of William Travis Badgett, Katherine Bruce is not his aunt - so, she must be the aunt of Mary Ann. Katherine Bruce was born as Catherine Burkett about 1838 in Tennessee. Her parents were George Washington Burkett and Mary Ann Henderson. Catherine Burkett married Carroll Murdock and had five children (Paul, E.G., Elsie, Eliza and George). Catherine Burkett Murdock's second husband was Edwin Bruce. Catherine Burkett Murdock Bruce died September 27, 1921 in Howland, Lamar County, TX. There are ties between the following families: Pike, Burkett, Murdock and Milligan. These families can be found in various census listings in Georgia and Tennessee. The tie between the Burketts and Pikes is through Catherine Burketts brother Stephen. He married Lizzie Pike in 1868. Lizzie Pike is the daughter of Littleton Pike and Julie Ann Brannon. Littleton Pike is the son of Esau and Telitha 'Leethy' Pike of Georgia. The 1870 census for Rutherford County, TN shows Littleton and Julie Pike living next door to Stephen and Lizzie (Bettie) Burkett. The next house is Carroll and Catherine Murdock, followed by two more households of families that are the sibling of Catherine Burkett. Finally, there is the household of George Washington and Mary Ann Henderson Burkett - Catherine and Stephen's parents. I have also included the surname Milligan because two of Catherine Burketts siblings married Milligans. Her sister Rachel married Sam Dillard Milligan January 1, 1880 in Gibson County, TN. Also, her sister Nancy married Jefferson 'Jeff' Milligan. I had long thought that Rachel was Mary Ann Pike's mother, but a 1880 census in Gibson County, TN shows Sam and Rachel living alone - Mary Ann Pike would be alive and ten years old, so she must belong to someone else. The George Washington Burkett family lived in the following places - per the census: 1850 Walker County, GA 1860 Hamilton County, TN 1870 Rutherford County, TN 1880 Gibson County, TN (Margaret Hatfield Perigan married Burkett November 9, 1879) I would like to thank and acknowledge Barbara Burkett Speegle for providing me with a great deal of information to get me started. Thank you, in advance, to anyone that is able to provide some clues as to the parents of Mary Ann 'Mollie' Pike. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If true her father died in April 1860 months before she was born. Part of my research complication is that there appears to be two Virginia MORRIS born in the same time period, both stayed in the area all of their lives. Other surnames I am researching in Weakley are JACKSON, UNDERWOOD,FRIZELL, POTTS, HOLLIS, WESTBROOK My family have lived in Weakley and Graves County, KY for almost 200 years. I would be happy to exchange research. 3. Elise: Which James Somers is your ancestor? One James Somers was the brother of Capt. John and the son of George. He died 1820. The other James was the son of Capt. John and the brother of John, Arden and Ira. The latter James gained control of the 2nd land grant to Capt. John for Rev. War service, claiming all 3840 acres in Weakley County. A law suit in Wilson Co., Tn. concerning James grabbing all the 2nd land grant, gives all the descendants of Capt. John Somers, of Caswell Co., N.C, You can look it up in Wilson Co. records, circa 1825 or so. Arden was the father of my George Somers who also moved from Wilson Co. to Weakly Co ( as did his uncle James)> However, my George did not own 3840 acres as did James. But the land he left on the rd to Dresden from Sharon right by New Salem Church is still being farmed by his descendants and Arden's house is still there. Please share with me your descent from this fine American family. Grace On 9/20/2010 10:34 PM, Elise Myers wrote: > Grace > > I am a descendant of James Summers. 3. Grace, Could you send a copy of the picture to my email so I could compare the two? I don't know much about the family. My aunt has a different father, so this isn't a direct line for me. 3. I have researched the George Somers family back to Fairfax Co., Va. I do have a picture of Wm.Green Somers, and other Somers pictures. None of Arden. This has been my favorite family to research because they were so different and hard to prove.
