    3. Peggy, Thank you for the look-up. I did not have this piece, I will look into the Ohio MORRIS connection. I just returned from visiting Graves County, KY where I have family from my JACKSON line. I took a quick drive down to Sharon, TN to see some of the Weakley County area. It was very interesting to put a view into some of the places I keep reading about. Thanks again for the help. 1. [TNWEAKLE] JOHNSON, TILMON
    2. jennyg24
    3. Tilmon Johnson was born 02 Apr 1804 in Johnston Cty, NC, the son of Uriah Johnson and Jane Carrell. He moved to Maury Cty, TN with his father in 1809. About 1819 he was in Carroll Cty, was a chain bearer, and helped auction off the 12th district. He purchased town lot #80 in Huntingdon as reported in the Carroll Cty Court Min, Tilmon married Lucinda Fowler in 1825 in Carroll Cty, TN. On 5 Dec 1826, Charles Simpson, agent and atty for Matthew M. Green, deeded Tilman Johnson 150 acres in Weakley Cty, TN for $187.50 adjacent to Moses Green property on Lick Creek. He entered another 50 acres in Carroll Cty. in 1831 and 200 acres in 1835. Between 1840 and 1850, Tilmon & family moved to 10th Dist, Weakley Cty. He sold and bought various tracts of land. He donated land for the old Beech Springs Baptist Church and Cemetery, 3 miles south of Gleason. Old church minutes of Sep 1848 show him as a charter member along with William F. Johnson, et al. In Pauline McDonald's book, she reported that in 1849 Tilmon and his two oldest sons, William F. and Elija W. went to California during the gold rush. The oldest son, William F. Johnson died in 1850-51 while on the trip and was buried at sea. According to McDonald's book, Tillman returned home in 1851. Lucinda Fowler died 11 Sep 1855 in Weakley Cty, TN and is buried at the Old Beech Springs Cemetery, Weakley Cty, TN. Tilmon then married Cintha Goldsby Wray in Weakley Cty on 8 July 1856. She was a widow with either 4 or 5 children by Moses Wray. On Friday, 7 July 1878, the Dresden Democrat reported that at the Centennial Celebration the meeting was organized by the election of Reuben Edmonston, the oldest inhabitant in the county, as president and of Tilman Johnson, James Smyth, B. D. Hynds, Alfred Gardner, A. D. Cutler and E. D. Tansil, the next oldest citizens. Cynthia Ann Goldsby died 13 Oct 1880 in Weakley Cty, TN. She is buried at old Beech Springs Cemetery, Gleason, Weakley Cty, TN. He was a deacon in the Beech Springs Baptist Church and faithful member until his death. His funeral was held in the new church. Tilmon died at age 94 on 12 Nov 1898 (from his tombstone in the old Beech Springs Cemetery). Very few people know the location of this cemetery, however, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit it several years ago. Tombstones are still standing but are in need of repair.

    1. [TNWEAKLE] Tillmon JOHNSON
    2. About 10 years ago when I began researching my mother's family I was given information that one of mother's sisters had obtained with the intention to trace ADAMS/MEDLOCK family roots. She passed away and I have no way of determining from whom she obtained the information. Since you have been researching the JOHNSON family for several years you probably already have the information that I have. Some of my copies are very difficult to read so rather than try to re-copy and send to you I will attempt to describe. If does not sound like papers you already have then I will attempt to send you the best copies possible. Typed pages 21 thru 33 plus 2 pages of pictures- titled THE JOHNSONS AND THEIR CONNECTIONS THE JOHNSON FAMILY......handwritten on top of page 21 "Dear Cousin Nancy, (may be Naney) hope this gives you the information you need." is signed Albert Johnson 1- '65 First sentence on Page 21: The surname Johnson has been used in England and Walesfor many centuies and...First senntence on Page 23: where I now live", part of a tract patented by Isaac Bush, 5th February, 1754. 1. [TNWEAKLE] YEARGIN In Weakley County
    2. Does anyone have a copy of the book "A Histoy of Carroll Co., TN, published by Truner about 1987? The reason I ask is that I just recently found a fragment of an entry concerning Chesley M. YEARGIN and his wife Mary Jane SIMMONS of Weakley County that appears in that book. They are my great grand parents and I've no idea why they are mentioned in the Carroll County book. The YEARGIN family came from North Carolina into Henry, Weakley, and Gibson counties but never lived in Carroll County that I'm aware of. However, I'd like very much to know what the rest of the entry says. I was not aware of this when I was in Weakley County several weeks ago or I would have tracked it down myself. I thought I'd throw this out there on the off chance that someone might have a copy. I believe it begins on the bottom of pg. 374. Thanks, Jim Gossum

    3. On Scott Taylor's death certificate Asa Taylor is listed as his father and Mary Foy as his mother. Does any one have any idea of where the Foys and Taylors were about the time that Asa and Mary were Married? Louis W S Taylor was born Aug 29 1847 according to this document. This is the first document that I have seen, thanks to Kathy Marler that has shown the last name of Asa's wife Mary. Also, It is believed that Asa's father Was a William Taylor. Per a copy of a will that Kathy found. The will of Asa Taylor was stolen from the court house here in Randolph CO AR some many years ago. This is a very bad copy that was apparently copied before it went missing from Pocahontas court house. I miss spoke in an earlier email: I find Grissoms in Ripley CO MO. 3. I believe Betty's grandmother was Mary Emily Lockridge who married Robert Hern Grissom in 1891 - their children were Marshall Stephen, Mary Lucille, James William and Robbie Harvey.   Mary Emily Lockridge's father was Marshall Stone Lockridge, my 2nd great grandfather. Marshall Stone was married to Mary Benson Lockridge who helped a young Civil War soldier (Union)  by wrapping him in a quilt so he could get through Confederate lines. His name was John Bauer.   I have the info on the Civil War battle fought at the Lockridge Mill (thank you Joe Stout!!)  and a picture of the quilt.   I recently found an article by the great grandson of the young soldier, John Bauer,  telling the story of the Bauer family meeting Betty Grissom who's great grandmother was Mary Benson. After all those years, the families reunited!   So now I would love to know about Betty  ~ --- On Sun, 9/26/10, pj <[email protected]> wrote: From: pj <[email protected]> Subject: [TNWEAKLE] GRISSOM To: [email protected] Date: Sunday, September 26, 2010, 5:18 PM Tell us more like who was her 2nd great grandmother?  I know a lot of GRISSOMs....... > Trying to find info on Grissom family - anyone know Betty? she is the > great grand daughter of my 2nd grt grandmother.
